When Dan and Gina Fox first opened the Fox Sports Cards and Memorabilia shop on Marion's Tower Square back in December 2006, little did they realize that seven and a half years later they would be branching off into yet another store catering to the area hobbyists. That has happened with the official grand opening of Fox's Comics and Gaming over the holiday weekend. Located at 108 Paradise Alley, the new store is located directly below Fox's Sports Card shop, located on the southeast corner of Marion's Tower Square, and is accessible through their entrance doors in the alley between their building and the adjacent John Brown's supper club. Dan Fox said he's excited about their new venture. "This comes at a great time in my life since I'm transitioning from a 28-year career in retail sales in Carbondale to doing this now full time," he said. Both Dan and Gina feel that their newest store will be successful due to the turnout they've seen already in the few days since they've been open. Dan said, "We were already holding game nights in the sports card shop and we would attract a large number of participants. Now that we have the new store devoted to comics and gaming, we think we're filling a need." Apparently American comic books still hold an appeal to all ages. That was quickly evident when Marion Mayor Bob Butler visited the new store to officiate at the grand opening and ribbon cutting. Without missing a beat, the always youthful legendary city leader walked right up to the wall full of new comics, reached up, took a Superman from the shelf and smiled saying, "As a boy, I always liked Superman, but Flash Gordon was my favorite." Their new store has over 2,000 square feet of floor space, giving them plenty of room to set up the tables that are needed for gaming. When asked, Dan said that Magic The Gathering is by far the most popular game among locals. "No question about that," he said. Dan said that the Comics and Gaming store will be open seven days a week with Monday through Friday hours being 10 a.m. until the last gamer leaves in the evening and from noon until the last gamer leaves on weekends.
