New York City-based Gladiator Championship Wrestling will debut on Telemundo with a weekly series running at 11 AM Sundays starting 8/3, we have learned.
The promotion, which ran a live event several months back in Queens, NY featuring a ton of names, will be running 8/30 at A. Robinson Stadium in The Bahamas with Matt Hardy, Dan Severn, Scott Steiner, Boogeyman, Buff Bagwell, Ken Anderson, Rob Terry, Carlito Colon and Chris Mordetzsky all advertised. The plan is to run there regularly and film the events for the series.
What is especially interesting about the announcement is that the episodes will be filmed in 4K.
The following press release was issued in regard to the technological aspects of the series:
WRESTLING OPENS ITS DOORS TO 4K
Gladiator Championship Wrestling based out of New York have announced their move to recording all of their shows in 4K with the acquisition of a full production system.
The company is due to start a series of supershows in the Caribbean, the first of which happens on August 30th at A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, The Bahamas, and Nick Cara, the owner of the company, wants the shows to be recorded to the very best quality available.
Len Davies is the Producer/Director of the shows that will be presented on Telemundo 47 from August 3rd and after extensive experience of filming in 4K he has some specific requirements from the system which he purchases.
“I’ve been using RED primarily for the 78 episodes of TV that we recorded in the past year, and for studio based shooting, for me, they were the only choice, but the needs of capturing a live wrestling event are totally different, requiring at least 2 of the cameras to be shoulder mounted for the duration of a 2 hour plus event, and my choice to cover that is the Black Magic Ursa. We’ll be investing in 5 of those that will feed through 6G-SDI to their ATEM Production studio and through that to a live vision mix and recording the source as is the norm in a Tricaster system. Tricaster would have been my first choice but they don’t yet have a 4K compatible system, so the only element I’m missing so far are the recorders needed to capture 6 feeds, and so far I’m considering a couple of Convergent Design Gemini units to achieve that.”
On GCW’s own program “Gladiator Evolution”, Davies explains the logic behind this investment, “GCW is not a new company but it has its eyes set on the future. It makes no sense whatsoever to bring the first supershows into the Bahamas and record them in HD only. I’ve suggested to the company that they record everything in 4K to give a better quality when the HD masters are delivered to broadcast, plus it futureproofs the brand so that when 4K starts broadcasting in earnest, GCW will be one of the companies in the forefront of wrestling broadcasting to that standard”.
GCW will also be putting on shows around the US and have plans for their MMA brand XGKO and other diverse events, all of which will be captured on the new system.
