variety.com/2014/film/news/remake-of-korean-thriller-secret-1201242335/New Line and CJ Entertainment are moving forward with their remake of CJ’s Korean crime thriller “Secret,” tapping Peter O’Brien (“Halo: Reach”) to write the script. Guy Stodel is producing the pic along with Jiwon Park of CJ Entertainment. The 2009 film, directed by Yoon Jae-goo, centers on a homicide detective in Seoul who’s racked with guilt following his daughter’s fatal car accident and an affair with his colleague’s wife. Stodel, a New Line exec and the former head of Paramount Vantage, has producing credits on the remake of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind.” CJ Entertainment produced “Snowpiercer,” Bong Joon-ho’s English-language debut. O’Brien wrote the game story for “Halo: Reach” and adapted Linwood Barclay’s novel “Trust Your Eyes” for Dan Lin and Todd Phillips to produce. He also penned the Black List script “Unlocked” for Warner Bros., which has Noomi Rapace attached to star with Mikael Hafstrom directing, and Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Georgina Townsley producing. O’Brien scripted Paramount’s adaption of Robert Ludlum’s “The Chancellor Manuscript” and “The Jury,” based on the British mini-series, for Fox 2000. Project executives at New Line are Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter. O’Brien is represented by Original Artists and Margaret Riley at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
