The animated short will play in front of the feature "Inside Out," which stars the voices of Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Lewis Black and Bill Hader, and is set for a June 2015 release.
Disney and Pixar have announced the release of a new animated short film titled Lava, which will be shown in front of the upcoming feature Inside Out when it hits theaters on June 19, 2015.
Directed by James Ford Murphy and produced by Andrea Warren, Lava is described as a musical love story taking place over millions of years that is inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, according to the announcement from Walt Disney Studios on Thursday.
The main feature, Inside Out, was announced earlier this year, and features the voices of Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Bill Hader and Phyllis Smith. It tells the story of a girl named Riley who is uprooted from her home in the Midwest when her father gets a job in San Francisco.
Oscar-winning director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up) once again takes viewers on extraordinary adventures, from a balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis — all inside Riley's mind — as she struggles to get used to her new life.
Along the way, she is guided by her emotions: Joy (Poehler), Fear (Hader), Anger (Black), Disgust (Kaling) and Sadness (Smith), which all live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life.
Inside Out is produced by Jonas Rivera and co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen.
