It was a night of celebration for Kings fans as they won Game 5 at in Los Angeles on Friday to complete a 4-1 game domination of the Rangers.
The Los Angeles Kings completed their dominance over the New York Rangers on Friday with a 3-2 victory to win the Stanley Cup in double overtime.
Friday's result marks the second time in two years that the Kings have won the NHL championship, after beating out the New Jersey Devils for the Cup in 2012. Alec Martinez scored the winning goal. Jarret Stoll said the first thing he wanted to do was "shower and shave" as he celebrated on the ice with his family and Erin Andrews.
As with the previous games during the east coast-west coast rivalry, the Staples Center was packed with famous faces including Joshua Jackson, Channing Tatum, Eric Stonestreet, Chloe Grace Moretz, Matthew Perry, Jim Carrey, Jason Bateman and Chris Pine.
Police were out in force near the game and reported fans were peaceful. However, police did arrest two men outside of L.A. Live near Wolfgang Puck's for allegedly getting in a scuffle. Police say one of the men shoved an officer, The LA Times reported. The Los Angeles Police Department had earlier advised that fans who didn't have a ticket stayed away from the area to avoid congestion or unrest.
There will be a victory parade downtown Monday at 12 p.m. at Figueroa and 5th Street. It will conclude at Staples Center between 12:30 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Some notable Kings fans took to twitter to celebrate. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti was particularly excited -- as the Kings' win means New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will have to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to sing Randy Newman's "I Love LA," per a bet between the mayors. Garcetti had pledged to sing Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" had the Rangers won.
