Vimeo has funded its first original programming project with six new episodes of web series “High Maintenance,” a comedy about a pot dealer, set to launch later this year.
The online-video company, a division of IAC, is not disclosing what it is investing in the series. The new episodes of “High Maintenance” will launch exclusively on Vimeo On Demand with pricing yet to be determined. The first 13 segments can be viewed for free on Vimeo.
Series was created by casting director Katja Blichfeld (“30 Rock”), actor and editor Ben Sinclair (“Delocated,” “30 Rock,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Big C”) and manager Russell Gregory at Regarding Entertainment, under the production banner of Janky Clown Prods. “High Maintenance,” which debuted on Vimeo last year, follows an unnamed cannabis dealer (Sinclair) as he delivers product to clients with neuroses as diverse as the city they live in.
“We’re all huge fans of ‘High Maintenance’ and couldn’t be happier to make our first original programming investment in a show that’s developed organically on Vimeo,” Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor said.
In March, Vimeo announced an initial $10 million fund to license content for distribution on its VOD service. Trainor said direct investments in series like “High Maintenance” mark the “next step for the platform.”
“We’re elated to be working directly with Vimeo to make our series with the creative control a television network would never afford us,” Blichfeld and Sinclair said in a statement. “They are a platform that truly celebrates filmmaking.”
Blichfeld and Sinclair are repped by Gregory McKnight at CAA and Kim Jaime at Jackoway Tyerman.
