CANNES — Kornel Mundruczo’s “White God,” which won top prize in Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section on Friday, has proved an international sales standout for The Match Factory.
The drama about how a girl’s separation from her dog leads to a canine uprising has found buyers in a raft of territories, including France, the U.K., Scandinavia, Benelux, Spain, Greece, Czech and Slovak Republic, Taiwan and South Korea.
The Match Factory inked the deals before Mundruczo won the Un Certain Regard prize.
Deals are expected to be signed for the U.S. and Japan before the end of the festival. TMF will follow up further offers from Italy, Portugal, Turkey, the Baltics, India, Brazil and Mexico.
The four-legged protagonist, Hagen (played by brothers Luke and Body), was awarded the Palm Dog Award in Cannes on Friday. The dogs were trained by Teresa Ann Miller. Body was in Cannes for the film’s premiere and attended the photo-call, walked up the red carpet and appeared on stage – the first dog in Cannes history to do that. Body even shot a video of the Cannes visit, as exclusively revealed in Variety.
