Lisa Kudrow (“Friends,” “Analyze This”) heads the ensemble voice cast. “Americano” is the fourth feature and first CG movie from Puebla Mexico-based Animex Studios. It is produced out of the U.S. by Burbank’s Olmos Productions. Top Film has licensed Russia, Eastern Europe and CIS states. Krisko Media picked up the Middle East, Vietnam and Malaysia. Korea , Latin America, Australia and Germany are under discussions, FilmSharks topper Guido Rud said at Cannes. “Americano” will receive a 1,200-screen U.S. theatrical release. U.S. and Mexican releases are both set for first quarter 2015, Rud added. “Americano” also features Edward James Olmos (“The Green Hornet”), Rico Rodriguez (“Modern Family”), Cheech Marin (“Spy Kids”), Kate del Castillo (“Queen of the South”) and Erik Estrada (“CHiPS”). A revisionist take on the U.S. as a fount of role models for young Mexicans, “Americano” “makes us realize that the answers to our struggles are right there in our own hearts,” Olmos said. It turns on Cuco, a plucky young Mexican parrot who embarks on an epic quest to persuade an American crime-fighting TV celeb to defend his family from bullies. But he learns he can be a hero himself.
