PRO WRESTLING NEWS:
---WWE is teasing a potential celebrity match for this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. WWE is hinting at a tag-match involving Maria Menounos for their annual summer spectacular.
As of right now, the proposed match would feature Maria Menounos and Natalya teaming up to take on The Bella Twins. Of course, with Nikki Bella recovering from injury, the match could feature Menounos and Natalya against Brie Bella and a different partner.
The celebrity tag-match at SummerSlam hype originated on several official Twitter pages during the airing of episode three of WWE Total Divas this past Sunday night on the E! cable channel.
---It appears as if WWE cancelled the upcoming SmackDown taping on November 5th at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC, and will instead tape RAW at the arena the night before. The official website of the Bi-Lo Center has reflected the change, although StubHub still has the old date listed.
It is unclear if WWE will tape two episodes of SmackDown the week before, or simply move the November 5th taping to another arena. However, the company is scheduled to head overseas that week for their overseas tour, which will run until mid-November.

I haven't been to a live wrestling event in over six years. I spent the money for front row tickets for my fiancee and I and I wasn't disappointed at all. The only real major complaint was the sound system gave off some bad feedback during the beginning of the show. After the third match, the group got the problem fixed. I didn't have anything to write with, so I don't have some of the names of the participants.
We made it to the Meet and Greet before-hand and got a picture with Shane Douglas. Shane was really a class act and personable. Funny guy, too. I ended up picking up a t-shirt. Mickie James, Chris Masters, Carlito, Matty Hardy, Virgil, Terry Funk, and Ric Flair were also set for photo-ops and autographs. Flair had the longest line by far. Reby Sky and The Patriot were mentioned by name, but I didn't look to see if they were set up.
The show didn't start until around 3:15 p.m. Some people complained about the venue being hot. There wasn't any air conditioning in the Rostraver Ice Gardens, but it was still a pretty good venue for a wrestling event. There was enough room on the floor for autograph tables, room to move, and there were about seven rows of ringside seating. There were maybe around 300 people who attended the show.
Matches and Results:
Ric Flair was introduced first. He came out and talked a bit, thanking the fans for being there. He said the BTW promoter was an honest man, which is hard to find in the wrestling business. He also gave a shout-out to a man in a wheelchair (more on that at the end) and a person with Down Syndrome. He asked the crowd to give these two an ovation, which the crowd did. Flair showed a lot of class.
(1) Todo Loco beat Bam Bam Delfonzo and in a Triple Threat match. The two heels double-teaming the face (Todo Loco) for the majority of the match. The end of the match came when Delfonzo and the other heel got into it over who would win the match. Loco took advantage and won with a roll-up. Delfonzo interacted with the crowd well enough, though he did take a shot at the Penguins being swept by the Bruins (Delfonzo was announced from Boston). Fun opener.
(2) The Patriot & Lone Star beat Russian Hammer & . Standard tag match with a USSR vs. USA feel. I didn't pay much attention to the match and used it for a concession stand and bathroom run. Russian Hammer got on the mic and called Americans ignorant and ugly. Lone Star won with a frog splash. Patriot and Lone Star came out and handed out American flags during their entrance. I did find humor in Patriot and Lone Star using "No Easy Way Out" as entrance music.
(3) TNA Knockouts champion Mickie James beat Reby Sky. Virgil was introduced as the guest ring announcer. He looked pretty good and got a decent cheer from the crowd. I couldn't make out what he was saying at all. I was pleasantly surprised by this match. The match was good and went around 10-plus minutes. James tried to play heel, but the crowd was too into her. She did the walkout bit where Reby chased her down and brought her back to the ring. Really good match from the women with nice exchanges and fun spots. James was outside the ring and the ref counted one. James looked and said, "Oh, I've got plenty of time," and just walked around ringside taking her time to get into the ring. Spot of the match was when Reby was tossed out of the ring. She crawled under the ring and came out on the other side. James asked where she went and turned around and got hit. James eventually won with a roll-up, holding the middle rope for the assist.
(4) BTW Heavyweight champion Flex Armstrong beat R.J. Brewer. Another really good match with nice exchanges and spots. A group behind me was vocal in their support for Brewer, who was playing the heel throughout. Some stall tactics at the beginning from Brewer. At one point, Armstrong pointed to the people the row behind me cheering for Brewer and said, "This one's for you," as he climbed the top rope. Brewer brought Armstrong down using Armstrong's arm. Armstrong started really selling his arm at that point. Armstrong held a delayed vertical suplex for around 30 seconds. The end came when Armstrong caught Brewer coming off the middle buckle with a spear. The ref did the X motion. It took a few moments for anyone to come down and check on Armstrong. He was favoring his shoulder. I guess he was all right as he was out during intermission talking to fans.
[ Intermission. Fans could pay $20 to get their picture taken with Mickie James and Terry Funk. Decent line for the photo-op. I chose not to participate as I had no cash and there wasn't an ATM on the premises. Intermission lasted about 20 minutes or so. ]
(5) Mr. Xcellence & beat John Sampson & Shorty Smalls. I'm not aware of Xcellence's partner's name. I assume Sampson to be the person due to the results from the Altoona show's description. Sampson got the crowd into it by heckling us. Really good interaction from him. He challenged one guy behind me to come over the guardrail. As the guy feinted doing this, Sampson seemed to legit warn him the fan came over he'd get hurt. At any rate, standard tag match made enjoyable by Smalls and Samspon's interaction. Xcellence's partner got the win with a diving neckbreaker (Buff's Blockbuster) on Smalls.
(6) Chris Masters beat Carlito. Easily match of the night. Masters and Carlito worked very well. The match followed the same formula as previous BTW reports for the weekend. It started off with both saying they were cool with one another and then Carlito went into heel mode. Neat spot where Masters held Carlito up for a suplex for a few seconds, then Carlito reversed the suplex and did the same thing, but he didn't complete the suplex, as he brought Masters back down and hit him with Spin Doctor/Cross Rhodes. A few funny spots - Masters had Carlito in a hold and shouted at my side of the ring, "He's your chance to take pictures. Look at that bicep!" Masters told the ref, "We're okay. We're professionals," after being told to get back into the ring. Carlito did the apple routine and spit it in the ref's face, then Carlito hit Masters with a low blow to get out of the Masterlock. Masters eventually knocked Carlito out with the Masterlock the second time around. Afterwards, they showed good sportsmanship with Carlito raising Masters's arm.
Next was the Main Event of Matt Hardy vs. Shane Douglas. Terry Funk was introduced first as the special guest enforcer. He got a on the mic and did his, "Cut my F'n Music" routine. He tried to get the crowd to finish the line, but I'm not sure how many remember his ECW schtick. He thanked the fans for coming out and said this may be the last time we see him. He got a, "Thank You Terry" chant. Douglas was introduced next. He wanted to thank the Pittsburgh fans and said we were the best. He said he bleeds black and gold just like city and gave us the Triple Threat sign, shouting out to Bigelow and Candido. Hardy came out next and Douglas asked the crowd if they wanted to see an Extreme Rules match. We cheered for it. The guy next to us handed Douglas his chair. Douglas put holes in it banging it against the top of the ringpost, so one of the Ice Garden employees told him not to hand them anymore chairs. Funny stuff there.
(7) Matt Hardy beat Shane Douglas in an Extreme Rules match. Good match between the two. Hardy went to the back at one point and came back with a ladder and garbage can. Hardy took some shots with the garbage can. The ladder didn't see much play, though. Douglas did a corner splash against the ladder with Hardy behind it and Douglas was also whipped into the ladder. Funk seemed to get into Douglas's face and Douglas kept telling Funk, "Don't touch me!" The ref was knocked out, so he couldn't count the three after Douglas hit the Belly-to-Belly. Douglas kicked out of the Twist of Fate, then Hardy and Douglas exchanged blows, which caused Funk to lose it and start punching them both. Heels came out of the locker room and Funk fended them off until Hardy and Douglas helped him. Douglas hit Hardy with his chain in his tights and went for the pin. I didn't see how the pin was reversed due to Funk being in the way, but Hardy reversed it and got the three.
Post-match, Douglas said he wouldn't let anyone screw him in his hometown. Hardy started putting on the ref's shirt (Funk had taken it off of him after he was knocked out). It was funny as the shirt was too small for Matt so he only got it down as far as his pecs. Douglas said he wouldn't fight someone he respected and wouldn't complain when someone was a step ahead of him, like Hardy was. Sign of respect between the three and then Funk and Hardy dumped the ref out of the ring.
After the match, there was a photo-op with Douglas and Hardy for $20, but we didn't stick around for it. We left with a majority of the crowd.
Overall, a fun time and good show. It was the first wrestling event my fiancee ever went to and she had a blast. I will say Terry Funk and Ric Flair are class acts. There was a fan who was in a wheelchair and had a breathing tube, and Flair and Funk made it a point to go over there and get photographs with the guy and his family before the show started.

Instead, Brad Maddox made an appearance and booked a battle royal with the winner being the #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship later that evening in a match versus Alberto Del Rio/

To start the match, Rob Van Dam, Christian, R-Truth, Justin Gabriel, Wade Barrett, The Usos, The Shield, The Miz, Mark Henry, and Ryback made their way to the ring. However, before things got under way, Big Show's music played to a huge pop and The Giant was the last entrant. The final four players were Show, Henry, Barrett, and Ryback. Show eventually won by eliminating Ryback.

(4) Rob Van Dam pinned Ryback with the Five Star Frogsplash. Great physical match with Ryback playing the perfect heel and grounding RVD throughout the match.

(7) Big Show beat World Hvt. champion Alberto Del Rio via DQ; Del Rio retained the World Title. Del Rio was DQ'ed when he brought a chair into the ring.
(8) Daniel Bryan beat Randy Orton in a No DQ match after he powerslammed Orton through a table. Match of the Night by far as it went almost 25 minutes. The crowd ate it up.

The seminar/tryout will begin at 8 AM on Saturday, August 14 in San Jose, California. Discounted pre-registration and further details are available at www.prowrestling-revolution.com/talent-scouts/aaa-tryouts/. Only 40 slots are available and are on a first to register basis.
