Angelina Jolie will have some competition in the Maleficent department soon. TV and stage vet Krstin Chenoweth has been tapped to play the mother of the villain from the Sleeping Beauty saga in the Disney Channel telepic “Descendants,” which revolves around the offspring of famous Mouse House villains.
Chenoweth will co-star as the mother of a teenage daughter, Mal, played by budding Disney star Dove Cameron.
Kenny Ortega is directing the telepic, which begins production later this month for a 2015 premiere. Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott penned the script.
Chenoweth is a Broadway regular who most recently logged a recurring guest shot role on Fox’s “Glee” and guest shots on CBS’ “The Good Wife.” She’ll topline Carnegie Hall on Saturday with a biographic concert performance dubbed “The Evolution of a Soprano.”
