variety.com/2014/tv/news/teen-beach-movie-2-sets-sail-at-disney-channel-1201165265/Not that there was much doubt, but Disney Channel execs confirmed on Saturday that a sequel to last summer’s hit musical telepic “Teen Beach Movie” is on the way. “Teen Beach Movie 2″ will reunite the key cast members and creatives from the original, which paid homage to the beach-party movies of the 1960s with a time travel storyline that sent a pair of contempo surfing buffs back to the era of bouffants and Brylcreem. Disney confirmed the news on Saturday at the taping of the Radio Disney Music Awards kudocast. Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell, Grace Phipps, Garrett Clayton and John DeLuca will reprise their roles. Director-choreographer Jeffrey Hornaday is back to helm the sequel, from a script by Robert Horn, Dan Berendsen, Matt and Billy Eddy. Michelle Manning and David Buelow will produce. The pic is targeted to bow next year. The storyline will pick up a few months after the end of the first pic. “The audience response to the first ‘Teen Beach Movie’ was overwhelming. We are thrilled to have the cast back for a new music-driven saga that continues this fantastical story,” said Gary Marsh, prexy and chief creative officers of Disney Channels Worldwide. Last July, “Teen Beach Movie” racked up 13.5 million viewers, making it second only to “High School Musical 2″ on the list of most-watched Disney Channel telepics. The pic also yielded a hit soundtrack album for the Mouse House and a handful of iTunes hits.
