The CEO of Anonymous Content today let loose against Lakeshore Entertainment over its firing of him last year from the romantic drama Adaline. “There is no polite way to put it: Lakeshore tried to pull a fast one to avoid honoring its obligations to prominent film, television, and commercial producer [Steve] Golin in connection with the upcoming film Adaline, featuring Harrison Ford, Ellen Burstyn, and Blake Lively,” says the breach of contract and Lakeshore-logo__130408224807-200x179unjust enrichment complaint Golin filed today by in LA Superior Court (read it here). Golin and his Overt Operations claim that he is owed “no less than $450,000 and no more than $1,000,000” under a Loanout Agreement with Lakeshore as well as a hefty backend on the pic. Requesting a jury trial, the True Detective EP and his company are seeking unspecified damages, proper credit and a change in the agreement plus legal costs and the usual “for such other and further relief as the Court deems proper and just” in the 5-claim complaint.
Scheduled to start shooting this month, Adaline (aka The Age of Adaline) chronicles the very long life of a young woman who stops aging after a nearly fatal accident. Her life of near-immortality and solitude follow the epic events of the 20th century until she meets a man who could change everything for her. Ford joined the cast of the pic earlier this year. Lionsgate is distributing the film domestically. The studio is not named as a defendant, nor is Sidney Kimmel, a producer on the pic for several years, and his company.
After years working on the project and Lakeshore “regularly trading on Golin’s reputation in the movie business,” according to today’s complaint, the producer abruptly was fired from the project on October 16. Golin was told he would get “no $$, no credit, no back-end, etc” in an email from Lakeshore’s head of business affairs. Being as blunt as can be, the email was subject lined “Steve Golin – Termination.” Golin’s complaint alleges that in the decade since Adaline was conceived, he and his Overt team were the ones who paid for drafts of the screenplay, joined together with SKE Productions, nurtured the project through various cast and, once Lakeshore got on board, got Lee Toland Krieger — one of his Anonymous clients — to direct. “Golin was so intimately involved that the film was originally called the Untitled Steve Golin Project,” says today’s filing.
Alan Radar of the LA-based Law Office Of Alan Radar and Bruce Isaacs of Bev Hill’s Wyman & Isaacs LLP are representing Golin and Overt Operations in the case.
