Oz Comic-Con and America’s ReedPop have joined forces, which is big news for fans of pop culture expos.
Where Oz Comic-Con already attracts international stars, including Shannon Doherty, Billie Piper and William Shatner for upcoming events, it will now be able to leverage the partnership with ReedPop to bring in the biggest names from current television shows and Hollywood blockbusters.
“We’ve always aimed high, but now we can aim a little bit higher,” Oz Comic-Con’s Rand Ratinac told Confidential.
“We’ve had aspirations to build it into something that is a destination not only for guests but the show itself. ReedPop isn’t our short cut, but our booster to make it faster and better so that it reaches the potential sooner than what we would do ourselves.”
Reed-Pop is the largest producer of pop culture events in the world, responsible for events including New York Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, Penny Arcade Expo and the UFC Fan Expo.
The company’s Lance Fensterman flew into Sydney for the announcement, indicating big things to come from the partnership.
“Us partnering with Oz Comic-Con is to help make something that has more brands, more celebrities, more content to the amazing team and brand that exists in Australia,” Fensterman said.
“Think about it this way, it is amplifying a small business. Fans know what it is and with extra resources, we can help lift this to a new level.”

Oz Comic-Con has a string of events coming up, starting in Perth in March, followed by Adelaide in April, Melbourne in July and Brisbane and Sydney in September.
Guests are still being confirmed for the Sydney event but they will include Shatner, Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa and Twilight and X-Men’s Booboo Stewart.
The whole premise of Comic Con is to provide face to face interaction between creators of popular culture, the stars themselves and the fans who lap it up. It is also a way of connecting communities.
“Everyone is a fan of something,” said Fensterman.
“I guarantee there is a passionate group out there or community that loves that person, or culture, or whatever it is.”
Being part of the festival circuit, with events held across the globe, is an increasing source of income for Hollywood stars. Stars can earn huge sums of cash to attend events.
“These guys doing the circuit, it’s a whole new string of income,” said Fensterman.
“But when you think about it, when you have people that adore you, clamour all over you, want to see you, and you get compensated for it, I mean, who wouldn’t love that?”
