Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has hired Jon Goldman, a former video game company CEO, to focus on emerging and new business, Venture Beat is reporting.
Goldman is former chairman and CEO of video game company Foundation 9 Entertainment, which doesn’t produce video games itself, so much as function as a collection of independent studios who provide talent for major video game and software companies. More recently, Goldman was CEO of Qlipso, which developed interactive digital content for both video games and multiuser content-sharing platforms for social interaction.
Goldman has been hired by Skybound as a managing partner in charge of a new business. He will oversee the strategic direction for the company and operate businesses around games and live events. Skybound recently announced “The Walking Dead Escape” traveling zombie obstacle course for this summer .
“It is a great privilege to work with the Skybound team to create a multifaceted transmedia company including imprints in the world of video games, merchandise, special events, and beyond,” Goldman said. “Our collective goal is to build major enterprises surrounding the remarkable worlds that Robert creates within his comics all while remaining true to fans.”
The Walking Dead comic has spawned not only the extremely successful TV show , but also several video games. Currently, Skybound Entertainment distributes the multi-platform, episodic video game Walking Dead: The Game developed by Telltale Games based on the comic, as well as The Walking Dead: Assault mobile game developed by Skybound and Gamagio.
There’s a separate video game licensing stream for the AMC TV show, over which Goldman would presumably not have control. It includes the first-person shooter The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct developed by Terminal Reality and published by Activision; The Walking Dead Social Game on Facebook; and the Android-based Dead Reckoning Adventure Game.
