Millennium Films Adds Russian Gas Czar As Investor On Film Slate, Including Pic Based On Book By CNN’s Jake Tapper
EXCLUSIVE: Millennium Films has pacted with Russian businessman Andrey Georgiev on its upcoming slate of films as an investor and executive producer, including The Outpost, a film about American military valor based on CNN anchor and Chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper’s best-selling book about one of the deadliest battles in Afghanistan.
Georgiev works in the field of energy-exploration and the production of gas condensate and is said to be a patron of the arts.
The complete list of films Georgiev will be involved in are some of the biggest projects on Millennium Films’ slate including: Angel Has Fallen (the third installment of the Olympus Has Fallen franchise, which will release on August 23); The Outpost, based on Tapper’s New York Times‘ best-seller The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, starring Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom (directed by Rod Lurie); Blackbird starring Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska, Rainn Wilson and Sam Neill; Red Sonja, which is in development and is the adaptation of the well-known comic book series; Poison Rose with John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, Brendan Fraser and Famke Janssen; Kill Chain with Nicolas Cage and Ryan Kwanten; and franchise favorite Rambo V starring Sylvester Stallone.
The Outpost as well as Rambo V and Blackbird are currently in post-production.
It’s unclear how the two businessmen met and Millennium Chairman and Founder, Avi Lerner, was unavailable for comment. He said in a statement to Deadline: “We’re looking forward to working with Georgiev. He’ll provide new investment opportunities in the development of future productions, giving Millennium new paths to forge.”
Born in Novosibirsk, Russia, Georgiev’s is chairman of Rusneftekhim which began in 2005 as a crude oil trader in Russia, and subsequently concluded processing contracts with Russian refineries. Rusneftekhim was a group of companies that in 2011/2012 was transformed into a vertically integrated structure. In 2012, Rusneftekhim acquired 100% of the shares of Resources Yamala. The company owns nine highly productive deep wells on the Urengoyskoye gas condensate field, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area (YaNAO) in West Siberia, Russia.
