Saban Films has snatched up North American rights to Derrick Borte’s American Dreamer starring comedian Jim Gaffigan in his first leading role. Gaffigan plays a down-on-his-luck ride share driver in the crime thriller, which had its premiere at the LA Film Festival. He starts chauffeuring around a low-level drug dealer to make a little extra cash, but when he decides to kidnap the dealer's child to pay off serious debts, his story takes a much darker turn. Robbie Jones, Isabel Arraiza, Alejandro Hernandez and Tammy Blanchard co-star. “Borte has helmed an intimate and unsettling film,” said Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley. “Gaffigan performs as never seen before; he brings to life a subtle and tense portrait.” Borte (London Town) co-wrote the script with Daniel Forte. Scott Lochmus produced American Dreamer for Storyland Pictures. Jonathan Gray, Mary Vernieu, XYZ Films and Sugar Studios executive produced. Ness Saban and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal for Saban Films with XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin on behalf of the filmmakers.
