WWE Monday Night Raw
January 27, 2014
Cleveland, OH
Jake Roberts was announced as an inductee into the Hall of Fame on WrestleMania weekend.
Daniel Bryan wants in the Elimination Chamber
Tonight's edition of WWE Raw began with the Authority, Stephanie McMahon and HHH, congratulating Randy Orton on his win last night and Batista on his Royal Rumble match victory. They also announced that Randy Orton would defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an Elimination Chamber match in February. Daniel Bryan came out next to a great, but not the greatest, reaction. He said that people have been talking all day about his match, to which Triple H said it was a "nice little effort." He then said people are also talking about Bryan not being in the Rumble match as the biggest disappointment of the night. The Authority tried to play off Bryan's exclusion from the Rumble as them protecting his health. Stephanie asked Bryan if he really thought that the people in the building came just to see Daniel Bryan, which caused an explosion in the crowd of "YES!" chants. Bryan said he wouldn't complain about the Rumble since the past cannot be changed, but he wants to be included in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match. Without acknowledging Bryan's request, Triple H signaled for the Shield to come down. And they did.
The Shield, including Seth Rollins who took a nasty spill getting over the dasher boards, surrounded the ring and attacked Bryan. Quickly, the returning Sheamus ran down to the ring. The Shield continued to have the upper hand until finally John Cena ran out to even the odds. Eventually, Cena, Sheamus, and Bryan gained control and sent the Shield packing.
After break, it was announced that Bryan & Cena & Sheamus would wrestle the Shield in the main event. The winning team would be entered into the Elimination Chamber match, so no suspense there.
Real Americans vs Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio
Guess which team is comprised of two Americans? Anyway, Zeb Colter gave some tough coaching to Jack Swagger that Swagger did not appreciate, as dissension was teased but not expanded on. Antonio Cesaro hit an uppercut followed by the Neutralizer on Sin Cara to gain the victory. Swagger, Cesaro, and Colter were best buds after the match as JBL put over how Zeb fired up his team to get the victory. Michael Cole managed to put over how great Kevin Nash looked in last night's Rumble during this match.
#BADNEWBARRETT: Barrett continued to bash The Miz, and he called Cleveland a town full of losers.
Michael Cole introduced us to a sneak peak of 'The Monday Night War: WWE vs WCW,' an original program coming to the WWE Network, which debuts in four weeks.
FANDANGO vs R-Truth
Truth won with Lil' Jimmy. Xavier Woods, on commentary, claimed JBL stole his number for the Rumble. #EMMAtaining was dancing again in the crowd. Jerry Lawler specifically mentioned that Summer Rae was not happy with Fandango's loss, so maybe they'll be doing something between them soon.
You can't please Randy Orton
BRAD MADDOX was in the ring, back from break, reminding us that he is, in fact, the GM of Raw. Brad introduced Randy Orton, who came out with his two belts for his one championship. Orton was pissed that after defeated John Cena, he has been put in an Elimination Chamber match for his championship. He berated Brad, and said he deserved respect. Orton was interrupted by Batista's music, and the Animal came down to the ring looking calm while pointing out a "#BOOtista" sign in the crowd. There were small pockets of fans in the crowd who booed Batista, and a small "Daniel Bryan" chant grew as Batista began to speak. Batista successfully talked over them while saying he came back to win the title at WrestleMania, and he doesn't care who he faces. He promised to walk out of Mania as champion, and nothing will change that. The crowd booed that. Not big Batista fans here tonight. BROCK LESNAR's music hit, and out came the Beast Incarnate and his handler, Paul Heyman. At this point, Brad was rubbing his hands through his hair looking miserable, as if he knew he was helpless to stop whatever may happen. The look on Batista's face as he stared at Lesnar was quite great. Paul Heyman began speaking, saying that Lesnar's patience is running thin, and that the Authority has two choices tonight. The first choice is to put Brock Lesnar in a WWE WHC match with Orton tonight in Cleveland. Crowd loved choice #1. The second choice for the Authority was to make Brock vs Batista in a #1 contender's match for tonight. Paul told Brad that he wants the Authority's answer tonight... or else. Batista and Orton stayed in the ring for all this. Orton paced and shook his head. Batista never flinched or moved. Batista is great.
The Battle of Cleveland
This got the big match in-ring introduction treatment. Miz came clad in a Browns jersey. Ziggler wore a Cavs jersey. Crowd was definitely pro-Ziggler. This was an average match at best, and Ziggler won with the Zig Zag. Miz pulled out the Figure 4 again, which got a good reaction, but this crowd was happiest with the Dolph win.
The New Age Outlaws are defending the tag titles in a rematch against the Rhodes Brothers tonight!
The Usos beat Rybaxel when Jimmy Uso pinned The Ryback with a top rope splash.
Alberto Del Rio vs Kofi Kingston
Alberto Del Rio pinned Kofi Kingston after a tope rope doublestomp followed by the superkick. The crowd did not care at all about the match at all early on. At one point, a loud JBL chant broke out, and he stood up to take in the applause. This upset Del Rio, who was yelling at JBL to sit his ass down. The crowd then chanted for Lawler, and he stood up as well. Back in the day, both JBL and Lawler may have punched announcers out for doing what they did. Chris Jericho certainly wouldn't be pleased if it were he in the ring. Quite the stunt, really. Anyway, after a while, the crowd eventually got into it a bit.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
The match ended via DQ or no contest as Brock Lesnar came out and beat up both of the Rhodes brothers with F-5's. There was a lot, and I mean VERY MUCH, of stalling in this match. That may have contributed to a lack of crowd involvement in it, or it could be because the show is two hours old and hasn't been very entertaining since the opening segment. After the no contest, Paul Heyman announced that the Authority decided against giving Brock Lesnar a match with either Orton or Batista. Paul said that when Brock doesn't get what he wants, people face the consequences. Brock continued to beat up both Rhodes brothers with chairshots. That'll show the Authority...
Brie Bella & Nikki Bella & Cameron & Naomi beat AJ Lee & Aksana & Alicia Fox & Tamina. Naomi pinned AJ after a buttbutt that she calls the "Rear View." A triple suplex near the end was the lone highlight.
WWE Hall of Fame 2014: Jake "The Snake" Roberts is the second inductee into the 2014 class of the WWE Hall of Fame.
Michael Cole introduced another video package on an original series coming to the WWE Network: WrestleMania Rewind.
Christian returns this week on SmackDown!
The Shield vs Sheamus & Cena & Bryan
The match started at 10:39, and ended at 11:04 when the Wyatt Family ambushed John Cena to cause a DQ win for Cena, Bryan, and Sheamus. After working together to take out the Shield, the trio of Shemaus, Bryan, and Cena worked to clear the ring of the Wyatt's. The show ended with Roman Reigns furious, screaming atop the announce table. Rollins and Ambrose were angry on the floor at the outcome. The Wyatt's retreated atop the stage and just stood there while Cena, Bryan, and Sheamus celebrated in the ring at their victory and entrance into the Elimination Chamber match.
