Former ABC broadcast group exec vice president Mark Cohen died Dec. 31. He was 81.
Cohen joined the net in 1958 as a member of the clearance department where he began what would be a 30-year career with the company. He moved to network sales in 1961 and was promoted to VP, sales planning in 1967.
In the early ‘70s, Cohen held various positions within the business planning and analysis area. He continued to climb the corporate ladder and landed himself VP in charge of planning and development for ABC Television in 1974. In 1985 Cohen would be tapped to be exec VP. He left the net in 1988.
In addition to his career at ABC, Cohen served as vice prexy of the International Radio and Television Society. He was also a former president of the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Pitman Cohen, daughters Patricia Beth and Cathyanne, son H. Jonathan and three grandchildren, Chase, Jake and Maryjane. He is also survived by a brother, Irwin Cohen.
