Kathleen Robertson Inks First-Look Deal With Universal Cable Productions
Writer-actress Kathleen Robertson has signed a first-look development deal with Universal Cable Productions. Under the pact, Robertson will develop scripted programming with UCP for the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment portfolio, as well as for external networks and streaming services.
“Kathleen Robertson is a wonderful writer and actress, and we’re delighted she’s joining the UCP family,” said Kate Fenske, Senior Vice President of Development, Universal Cable Productions. “Her passion, creative intellect and unique voice make her such fun to work with and we look forward to sharing the results of this exciting collaboration with the market.”
As an actress, Robertson most recently starred as Hildy Mulligan on TNT crime drama Murder in the First. After the series wrapped, Robertson shifted her focus to writing, which she has been pursuing for several years alongside her acting career. She also completed the Writers Guild’s Showrunners Training Program.
Robertson is currently writing the feature adaptation of The Possibilities, Kaui Hart Hemmings’ follow-up novel to The Descendants, for Fox Searchlight and Jason Reitman, a deal she made prior to her first-look with UCP.
Robertson previously set up dramedy, Your Time Is Up, from Lionsgate TV, at Lifetime, with Christina Applegate attached to star. Her other acting credits include Beverly Hills, 90210, Bates Motel and features Scary Movie 2, Hollywoodland and The Vatican Tapes.
Robertson joins UCP’s roster of first look deals including Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah; John Carpenter; Hypnotic (Suits and the upcoming spinoff for USA Network, Nightflyers for Syfy, and Impulse for YouTube Red), and Dark Horse Entertainment (Umbrella Academy for Netflix). UCP also has overall deals with Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment, Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot for USA Network and Homecoming for Amazon), and Patrick Macmanus (Happy! for Syfy).
UCP is currently shooting the Julia Roberts-led Amazon series Homecoming, The Sinner and Mr. Robot on USA Network, George R. R. Martin’s The Nightflyers for Syfy, Ellen Page Netflix series Umbrella Academy, the television adaptation of The Purge and the Connie Britton & Eric Bana-led Dirty John for Bravo.
Robertson is repped by Untitled Entertainment, Paradigm, and attorney Jamie Feldman, as well as NCA Talent and Play Management in her native Canada.
