X-Force Movie May Begin Filming This Fall
Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin may soon return to their roles as Deadpool and Cable, as Fox’s X-Force is rumored to start filming this fall.
Audiences are still yet to see Brolin’s debut as the time-traveling Cable in director David Leitch’s Deadpool 2, but we already knew the movie is intended to lay the foundation for an X-Force outing. However, while the action-packed Deadpool 2 trailer teased a possible X-Force line-up (including Terry Crews), the latest information on the movie reveals only two character returns.
According to Production Weekly, X-Force will begin shooting in October, Reynolds and Brolin seemingly confirmed to join director Drew Goddard.
Based on the Marvel Comics property, X-Force is a more violent offshoot of the X-Men that should lend itself to Fox’s current slate of darker mutant movies. The plot details for X-Force are equally thin on the ground, but the synopsis suggests Deadpool and Cable will lead a black-ops force of “down and dirty mutant warriors” who aren’t afraid to get a little blood on their hands.
X-Force is an interesting concept to take on considering its members over the years, including the likes of Psylocke, Colossus, Domino, Shatterstar, Wolfsbane, Danielle Moonstar and X-23.
Alongside X-Force and Deadpool 2, Fox’s X-Men franchise is also expecting Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants and those persistent rumors of Gambit. While the future of some of the mutant franchise remains up in the air, it looks as if Fox will keep plowing forward with its more adult movies about characters away from Charles Xavier’s gifted youngsters for now.
If X-Force does stick to its proposed shooting schedule, it could make it one of the final movies before the Fox/Disney merger is completed. Either way, fans should prepare for another foul-mouthed beat-’em-up if Cable and Deadpool are involved, but we will ultimately have to wait until after Deadpool 2 hits theaters to know who will be joining X-Force and how.
Cable and the Merc With a Mouth will next be seen May 18 in Deadpool 2, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams, among others.
