Slamdance Studios, the distribution arm of the Slamdance Film Festival, has acquired distribution rights to Nicole Teeny’s documentary “Bible Quiz.”
The film won Slamdance’s grand jury prize last year and was part of its On the Road series of film screenings. It focuses on a 17-year-old teen who memorizes thousands of Bible verses on her quest to win the National Bible Quiz Championship and the heart of her quiz team captain.
Slamdance Studios will partner with Virgil Films for U.S. and Canadian VOD and DVD distribution rights and on a limited U.S. theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles. “Bible Quiz” will also play in Alamo Drafthouse theaters in Houston, Kalamazoo, Lubbock, and Austin.
Slamdance will launch this year’s On the Road series on March 26 in New York, followed by April 3 in Los Angeles, April 10 in Kansas City, April 18 in Austin, May 8 in Detroit, May 25 in Minneapolis, July 17 in San Francisco and Aug. 9 in Salt Lake City.
The Slamdance festival, launched two decades ago as an alternative to Sundance, began Jan. 17 and concludes Thursday in Park City, Utah at the Treasure Mountain Inn.
