Fenton’s latest five-year contract expired and the executive will transition to a consultant role. He will also point his energies to his role as a trustee of the Washington, D.C. based US-Asia Institute. The latter is a diplomatic organization that deals with USTR and WTO trade negotiations between the US and China. The executive found himself at the intersection of Hollywood, China and Wall Street in the early 2000s just as Chinese media was going through a massive growth. During his tenure, DMG grew from 35 employees to more than 900 currently while its value increased from $100 million to a market cap of roughly $5 billion. Among his accomplishment was securing Lionsgate’s Knowing a release in China, making it the first ever non- major studio motion picture to receive a highly coveted spot in country’s quota system. Fenton supervised the development, financing, production, marketing, and distribution of DMG’s globally-focused entertainment content and managed its IP library. He also produced or supervised the company’s involvement in twenty films ranging from big budget tentpoles such as Iron Man 3 and 47 Ronin to indies such as Looper and the recent drama Chappaquiddick. Fenton previously was an agent at William Morris Agency and co-founded the management/production company H2F Entertainment with now DC Films president, Walter Hamada. The pair sold the company to DMG in 2012.
