Well Go USA Entertainment has nabbed U.S. rights to Dead Snow; Red Vs. Dead, the Norwegian zombie sequel that premiered in the Midnight program at Sundance.
Written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, the film stars Martin Starr, Vegar Hoel, Ingrid Haas, Stig Frode Henriksen, Jocelyn DeBoer and Ørjan Gamst. The story picks up after the events of the 2009 film, Dead Snow, which followed a group of students surviving a Nazi zombie apocalypse.
Well Go USA plans to announce a domestic release date shortly (there is a theatrical commitment).
While the version of the film that premieres on Sunday, Jan. 19 was half-Norwegian, half-English, Well Go USA plans to release an all-English version.
Kjetil Omberg and Terje Stroemstad of Tappeluft Pictures produced the pic, while XYZ Films' Nick Spicer and Todd Brown executive produced. Also executive producing was Wayne Godfrey from The Fyzz, which also provided a portion of the financing for the film.
The deal was brokered by Well Go USA president Doris Pfardrescher with CAA, XYZ Films' Nate Bolotin, and Elle Driver on behalf of the filmmakers.
Driver also reps the film's international distribution rights.
"Dead Snow; Red Vs. Dead is non-stop fun from beginning to end and we're thrilled to be able to bring it to Dead Snow fans in the U.S.
It's everything the fans loved from the first movie, except bigger, better and bloodier," said Pfardrescher.
After premiering at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, Dead Snow was acquired domestically by IFC Films and had a limited release beginning June 19, 2009 in the U.S.
At Sundance, XYZ is handling world sales on Indonesian action pic The Raid 2, from writer/director Gareth Huw Evans, as well as Killers, co-directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel.
