www.cbr.com/star-wars-handmaids-tale-director-reed-morano/Next Star Wars Director Rumored to Be Handmaid’s Tale Helmer Reed Morano may have well hinted that she could be the first female director of the Star Wars franchise. Morano, one of the directors behind the award-winning Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale, met with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy for two hours in what can best be described as a secretive meeting. All eight Star Wars films so far, as well as the Rogue One and Han Solo spinoffs have been directed by males, and with J.J. Abrams coming back for Episode IX, speculation has begun that Morano could be hired to buck this trend, especially as Kennedy has been a big advocate of diversity within the property. Regarding their conversation, Morano told The Hollywood Reporter: “[Kathleen Kennedy is] amazing. We’re talking about adventure movies, and I’m not even remembering that she produced Goonies. Any movie that I put my finger on that I loved when I was growing up was a movie that she produced.” “Anyway, it was a great meeting. Obviously, I can’t say anything about what else we were talking about,” added Morano, which certainly left fans in a frenzy. Morano has also helmed episodes of Halt and Catch Fire, as well as movies such as the missing-child drama Meadowland and the upcoming Sundance sci-fi film I Think We’re Alone Now. She is currently shooting the Blake Lively-led spy-thriller The Rhythm Section, but with Kennedy going on record in the past stating that there are plans for “the next 10 years of Star Wars, it’s a good possibility that a female-led vision is exactly what the franchise needs, especially with the recent movies really driven by heroines such as Jyn Erso, General Leia Organa and of course, Rey.
