HAWKEYE & ICEMAN Join Wave of MARVEL Titles Canceled

Both Hawkeye and Iceman ongoing titles are ending in early 2018. The series writers for both titles tweeted out confirmation of the cancellations following each title's seemingly finale-tinged solicitations in Marvel Comics' March 2018 solicitations.
"Yeah, as some of you are guessing from that cover, #16 will be our last issue of Hawkeye," Kelly Thompson tweeted. "Obviously I'm disappointed, but I'm really proud of our book & 16 issues is a solid number in modern times. And there's maybe something interesting coming next? We'll see!"
For Iceman, series writer Sina Grace infered that his book's cancellation was part of a larger problem - retailers not buying X-Men titles with solo characters (Jean Grey's finale was announced earlier this month).
"Yup Iceman is coming to a close," Grace wrote. "I am supremely bummed out, but was given plenty of notice (and even a Hail Mary or two). Everyone at Marvel has been super supportive, but at the end of the day solo X-titles are a hard sell for retailers..."
Champions writer Mark Waid has confirmed, however, that despite teases of a disbanding in that title's March solicits, it is not ending.
In the past week, five Marvel titles - Jean Grey, Unbelievable Gwenpool, Generation X, Hawkeye, and Iceman - were publicly confirmed as ending in early 2018.
Speculation about some of these titles' impending cancellation started when they were absent from the aforemention March 2018 solicitations, but Captain Marvel series writer Margaret Stohl was quick to poke a hole in that common assumption - saying that even though her title will not be coming out in March, it is not cancelled.
"Concerned Citizens: nope Captain Marvel has not been canceled & we are hard at work on all things Carol Danvers even now!" tweeted Stohl.
That being said, there are four additional Marvel ongoing titles absent from the March 2018 solicitations with no word yet if it signals a cancellation or hiatus: America, Secret Warriors, Luke Cage, and Defenders.
"There is no bloodbath of cancellations," tweeted Secret Warriors writer Matthew Rosenberg, a former comics retailer. "Some books end so new ones can take their place. That's just the cycle."
