WWE RAW LIVE RESULTS: REIGNS VS. STROWMAN ON TLC GO-HOME SHOW
BY JEFF HAMLIN | @hamlin37 | OCT 16, 2017 4:48 PM
The Big Takeaway: Kane returned to attack Roman Reigns, causing him to lose the steel cage match with Braun Strowman. Kurt Angle allowed Miz to have a 5th member in the main event of TLC if Strowman won the match. After Strowman won, Miz announced Kane would be the 5th man. Mickie James pinned Alexa Bliss in a tag team match to build to their title match on Sunday.
Show Recap:
Kurt Angle came out to start the show. He announced that the Shield would face Strowman, Sheamus, Cesaro and the Miz on Sunday at TLC. The Shield came out with Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were in their old Sheild gear and walked down through the crowd. The Shield teased going after Angle as they surrounded the ring. Reigns said when the hounds of justice come calling, you either move or get out of the ring. Reigns called out Strowman, Miz and the Bar.
Strowman came out when the other heels, but Angle stopped them. Angle said there wouldn't have the main event of TLC tonight, which got the crowd mad. He announced Reigns would face Strowman in a steel cage tonight.
Elias was in the ring with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Anderson asked Elias if he could warm up his voice and repeated "nerds" over and over. Anderson asked Elias if he could warm up his voice and started singing the Honky Tonk Man's old theme song.
Apollo Crews, Jason Jordan and Titus O'Neil defeated Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and Elias (6:52)
Apollo Crews pinned Anderson with the spinning power bomb. Jason Jordan made the hot tag and threw quicks all over the place, including an enzuigiri to Gallows and a shoulder to Anderson leading to the finish.
Another vignette for Asuka. This led to Emma doing an interview with Renee Young. Emma did her usual promo about how she started the Women's Revolution. Young corrected Emma and said she started the Women's Evolution. Bliss walked up and said that Emma was right. Bliss accused James of body shaming her last week when James called her a "biscut." Bliss said she and Emma should team tonight against James and a partner of James' choice. Bliss joked maybe it would be Betty White. Emma agreed.
There was a video package reviewing how Jack Gallagher turned heel and joined forces with Brian Kendrick against Cedric Alexander.
Cedric Alexander defeated Jack Gallagher (3:20)
Alexander won with the Lumbar Check. Kendrick came down to be in Gallagher's corner, so Rich Swann showed up to be in Alexander's corner. Gallagher did mostly rest holds after Kendrick jumped on the apron to stop Alexander from doing a tope.
Alicia Fox did an inset promo about how she didn't tap out to Sasha Banks' Bank Statement last week, she was scratching her nose. She also complained about getting only one t-shirt in ten years.
Sasha Banks defeated Alicia Fox (2:43)
Banks escaped a spinning backbreaker and won with the bank statement. Fox hit the spinning backbreaker earlier in the match. Afterwards, Fox started screaming about wanting a rematch.
Charly Caruso started to do an interview with Banks when Fox jumped her. Banks breifly made his own comeback before Fox threw her around a few more times. A referee jumped in to yell at her, but Fox shoved him down. So they're going back to a Banks-Fox program which happened during the spring.
Enzo Amore came out. He said he heard a few people booing him. He replayed Kalisto beating him last week. Amore said he got nuked, duped and robbed of his cruiserweight championship. He was forced into the match by Angle. He said Mustafa Ali was responsible to costing him the championship. Kalisto came out and said enough was enough, Enzo's mouth was like a 7-11, it never closes. Kalisto said Enzo could blame Angle, blame the WWE Universe, but there would be no excuses at TLC when he walks out as the new cruiserweight champion. Enzo said he's got money stacked higher than Kalisto. Enzo said he earned that money being a star and wondered why Kalisto was standing on the train looking at the light at the end of the tunnel, because the Soul Train was coming through. Then Noam Dar, Tony Nese, Drew Gulak and Ariya Daivari jumped Kalisto. Ali ran out for the save, laying out Daivari, Gulak and Dar until Enzo jumped Ali from behind. Enzo was playing up getting booed as Daivari delivered a short-armed clothesline. Nese held Kalisto as Amore hit the Jordanzo. This got some heat. Enzo asked Kalisto and Ali "How you doin'?" and threw down the microphone.
Raw Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated Sheamus and Cesaro to retain the Raw Tag Team Championships (12:02)
Very good match where Ambrose pinned Sheamus to retain the belts. Early, Ambrose and Rollins did stereo topes. Later, Sheamus hoisted Rollins into a Cesaro uppercut for a good near fall. Towards the finish, it appeared Sheamus and Cesaro were supposed to give Ambrose a spiked white noise. But Ambrose was out of position so they had to improvise the old Hart Foundation Hart Attack, forcing Rollins to make the save. Rollins gave Sheamus the rainmaker knee leading to the finish. Crowd was hot and easily the best thing on the show so far.
Backstage, Axel delivered a pep talk to Cesaro and Sheamus saying they had to stay up and active despite the loss. Axel said he would be the 5th member of Strowman beats Reigns. Axel told Strowman he needed this match more than anything. In fact, he wanted to fight Reigns right now. Strowman told Axel to go find him. Axel backed off that statement. Sheamus said the 5th member of their team wouldn't be afraid to take on Reigns. Axel reluctantly agreed. Michael Cole treated Axel like a joke on commentary.
Balor came out and said when Wyatt introduced the world to Sister Abigail, he didn't know what to think. Maybe Wyatt had lost his mind, or maybe he outsmarted everyone. Balor said when he was young, he read about the Celtic Festival of Samhain, where at night the dead would rise and monsters would walk the Earth. He used to think these were just stories, but after seeing Sister Abigail, he realized these weren't just stories, they were real. Balor said Wyatt may have his trick, but he has his own trick. Just like the legend of Samhain, he will slay a monster with a demon of his own. Balor said his demon has no fear. Then Balor's face changed into the Demon King persona. He said his demon has no nightmares and his demon is dying to meet Sister Abigail. Te Demon King said "run."
Mickie James and Bayley defeated Alexa Bliss and Emma (11:21)
James pinned Bliss after the Mick Kick. Bliss delivered a hard right to Bayley before the finish. Bayley worked most of the match and got the heat. Bliss slapped Bayley several times. Crowd stayed into it and Bayley once again got a solid response.
Backstage, Axel saw the Shield hudding together in a corner. He was no more than 5 feet away from walking up to them when they abruptly cut to a commercial.
Miz walked into his locker room and said it was an honor to have Strowman on Team Miz against the Shield. Miz asked where was Axel. Strowman said Axel wanted to beat up Reigns so he told Axelt to do it. Sheamus and Cesaro was chuckling under their breath. Miz winced and left to find Axel.
Caruso did an interview with James about facing Blizz. James admitted that the age jokes by Bliss cut her deep. However, she said she is proud of what she has done thoughout her career. Now, she has a three-year old boy at home who is the light of her life. She said seeing him whenever she comes home is the light of her life. However, one of the greatest feeling of her career would be to win the Raw Women's Championship for a 7th time. James delivered this promo with conviction and emotion.
Miz looked for Axel. He was strung upside down on the end of a forklift with his ribs bruised. Officials and Miz all tended to him. We never saw the Shield beat up Axel, but they made it seem like Axel was beaten within an inch of his life.
Axel was being let down from the hanglift. Miz told Caruso that Axel was never going to be the 5th member of his team.
Braun Strowman defeated Roman Reigns in a steel cage match, which allows Miz's team at No Mercy to have a 5th member. (17:20)
Strowman won when Kane burst through the ring and gave Reigns a choke slam, then a tombstone. Strowman delivered two running powerslams before pinning Reigns. Afterwards, Miz announced that Kane would be the 5th member of his team.
The Miz was on commentary. It was a really good match with Strowman getting a near fall with a spinebuster. Earlier, they replayed Strowman giving the Big Show a slam through the cage last month. They teased that same spot in this bout. Strowman sandwiched Reigns with a running splash into the cage. Reigns hit a Superman punch and appeared to be headed over the cage when Sheamus and Cesaro, despite being banned from ringside, ran out to stop him. Ambrose and Rollins ran down to brawl with Sheamus and Cesaro. They fought backstage, past what appeared to be a Toys 'R Us toy display and into the parking garage. Miz ran backstage and closed the garage door to make sure Ambrose and Rollins couldn't get back into the building. Strowman pulled Reigns back into the cage with his vest and gave him a suplex into the ring off the top rope. Reigns went on to hit two Supermen punches for a two count. Then Kane's music played. Just as it did, Reigns hit a spear on Strowman, but Kane came through the ring. Corey Graves wondered why Kane was there, not bringing up his endless program with Rollins or the fact that Reigns retired his brother.
