The production company run by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller is partnering with Chiller Films on The Boy, the first film in a planned trilogy tracking the childhood of a future serial killer. Spectrevision‘s plan is to make installments depicting the character at ages 9, 14 and 18, respectively, and ending with his full transformation to an iconic mass murderer. Shooting is set to start February 17 on location in Colombia. The pic is based on the Sundance short Henley, which premiered in competition in Park City last year. Craig McNeill, who directed the short, and Clay McLeod Chapman, who created the characters in his novel Miss Corpus and penned the script for the short, will reunite for the same duties on Boy. Wood, Noah and Waller are producing.
Jared Breeze, age 8, will play the lead Ted Henley, and Aiden Lovekamp, who starred in Paranormal Activity 4 and plays the young Bobby Fisher in Edward Zwick’s upcoming Pawn Sacrifice, also has been cast. Both are in Spectrevision’s Cooties, the prepubescent horror comedy written by Saw‘s Leigh Whannell and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan and starring Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson and Jack McBrayer. It screens tomorrow night in the Park City at Midnight section and is one of two films the production/music management outfit has premiering at Sundance. The other is A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, which debuts Sunday in the NEXT section.
