Harlem in the 1920s was very different from the neighborhood it is today — the center of an artistic and cultural renaissance that shaped African-American art moving forward, it was also the home of the finest monster hunters in the world. Or, at least, that's the hook behind a new Image Comics series announced at Portland, Oregon's Rose City Comic Con on Friday. Bitter Root re-teams the creative talents behind Marvel's critically-beloved Power Man and Iron Fist series, with writer David Walker and artist Sanford Greene joined by co-writer Chuck Brown, who has previously worked with Walker on Dark Horse's Rotten Apple and LINE Webtoon's 1000. The series centers around the Sangerye family, the world's greatest defenders against supernatural apocalypse, as they have to move past their own tragedies in order to save the world one more time. In a statement describing the series as "unlike any comic book people have seen," Walker explained that he was "excited for this series for several reasons. It gives me the chance to work with Sanford again, Chuck, who is a great co-writer, and Image, which publishes some absolutely amazing comics." Bitter Root will launch in spring 2018, according to Image.
