After a two-month delay from its North American debut, Spider-Man: Homecoming finally sprung into China on Friday, chalking up a healthy $23 million opening day, including about $1 million in Thursday night previews. The critically acclaimed Sony and Marvel Studios' tentpole accounted for approximately 52 percent of all showings for the day. The debut puts the reboot on track for $60 million-plus opening weekend, which would be better than the entire China totals of all but the most recent Spidey movie — The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned $94.4 million in the Middle Kingdom in 2014. Last weekend's winner, Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, hardly held its own on its second Friday, retreating to just $1.5 million for the day. After eight days on Chinese screens, the Warner Bros. awards contender has earned $42.6 million. Japanese animation A Silent Voice opened in an apparent tie with Dunkirk, also earning $1.5 million on its first day. Meanwhile, Chinese mega-blockbuster Wolf Warrior 2 continued its seemingly endless victory march, adding $880,000 and boosting its historic total to $858.4 million.
