Pilgrim Studios Launches Digital-Video Service With 6 Original Series
Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios TV production company is going over-the-top with 1620 Media, a digital-video platform launching with six original series and more in the pipeline.
1620 Media launches with six new original series, including comedy “Inside the Extras Studio” starring Barry Bostwick (“Scandal,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”) and “The Intersection” interview show hosted by actress and former Playboy centerfold Nikki Leigh. The digital brand — whose name is reference to the year the Pilgrims established the Plymouth Colony — will encompass content across a range of genres and formats, including scripted and unscripted shows, sketch comedy, documentary and animation.
“Pilgrim is always looking for new ways to produce and showcase quality content,” Piligian said. “With 1620 Media, we’re exploring a lot of new territory and working with a wide range of talent to create sharp, entertaining short-form programming.”
Advertising partners for 1620 Media at launch include Anheuser-Busch’s Busch, Johnson & Johnson, MTV and UFC. Pilgrim Studios said it will produce branded entertainment content with marketers to engage audiences in “compelling, humorous and inventive new ways.”
Following the six debut series, 1620 Media will release seven original shows throughout October and November will new content to be introduced on an ongoing basis. Series episodes vary in length from 15 seconds to five minutes.
1620 Media’s content is available at 1620media.com and on YouTube. Each series will have its own YouTube channel and a presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media.
The six initial digital series are:
“Inside The Extras Studio”: Bostwick takes a satirical look at the industry’s forgotten stars, in a spoof of James Lipton’s “Inside the Actors Studio.”
“The Intersection”: Nikki Leigh ventures to Hollywood & Vine and other well-known L.A. intersections to ask strangers a range of questions, ranging from “What emoji would you be?” to “What secrets are the government hiding?”
“The Real Cat Therapist Of Beverly Hills”: Weekly comedy starring a cat as Dr. Xander, who listens to improv-comedian “patients” kvetch about their problems.
“Explained In Children’s Drawings”: Weekly series poses different question to kids (e.g. asking boys “What if you were a girl for a day?” and vice versa), with their responses depicted through unpredictable animated drawings.
“Paw Prints”: Collection of uplifting stories from the Pasadena Humane Society includes segments about pets available for adoption, animals saved by their adoptive families, wildlife rescue and volunteer profiles.
“The Mixology Guys”: Three L.A. bartenders lead viewers through the world of drink-making, complete with how-to instructions and competitions.
In addition to its consumer-facing business, 1620 Media is set up to provide production services. The division is based in Valley Village, Calif.
Pilgrim Studios’ TV productions include “Bring It!” for Lifetime; “Fast N’ Loud,” “Misfit Garage” and “Street Outlaws” for Discovery; “Ghost Hunters” for Syfy; and “Somebody’s Gotta Do It with Mike Rowe” for CNN.
