Screen Media Buys Courtney Cox-Susan Sarandon Drama ‘Mothers Day’ for U.S.
Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights to the drama “Mothers Day,” starring Courtney Cox, Rosalyn Sanchez, Susan Sarandon and daughter Eva Amurri Martino, Sharon Stone, Christina Ricci and Paul Wesley, Variety has learned exclusively.
Screen Media is planning on a second quarter release that will be tied to Mother’s Day on May 8, 2016.
Lotus Entertainment will be taking meetings with international buyers during the American Film Market to continue to sell foreign rights.
“Mothers Day” is Paul Duddridge’s feature film directing debut, with Nigel Levy co-directing. The script by Paige Cameron is based on a concept by Duddridge.
The production company is Siempre Viva Productions in association with Aloe Entertainment and Mass Hysteria Entertainment. Producers are Danielle James and Amy Williams, who are both working mothers.
The story is focused on a rock photographer who is riding a career high when an unlikely and unexpected pregnancy forces her to turn her lens inward and see her relationship with her estranged mother with fresh eyes. Through a series of photographs documenting motherhood in all its varieties, she considers what it means to be maternal at all.
“This is an all-star cast of some of the most talented working actresses today,” said Seth Needle, Screen Media’s director of worldwide acquisitions. “While I can’t speak personally to the mother-daughter relationship, I know how complex and intimate it can be and we felt this film captured it perfectly.”
Executive producers are Mary Aloe, Daniel Grodnik, Sean Glover, Terry Chase Chenowith, Michael Torchia, Tricia Small, Brett Crain, Dina El-Kadri and Eric and Tammy Guseric.
The deal was negotiated by Needle for Screen Media, with Daniel Brandt of Lotus Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers.
