Man of Steel (in 3D)
Released June 14,2013 By Warner Bros.
GRADE: B
Is this movie great? No. It is good and they spent a fortune on it, but it is not great. The 3D does not work at all and there is NO extra footage at the end with the Justice League,Wonder Woman,Batman, Flash, etc...No One shows up from the DC Universe.
We begin with Russell Crowe wanting to save Krypton. The people of Krypton have depleted their planet by tapping into it's core for energy. The planet will destroy itself soon. General Zod leads a military coup to try to take over the planet. He kills Jor-El(Russell Crowe) and Lara sends little Kal-El into space towards Earth. Kal-El has been bonded with all the Codex material of the planet(think all of Krypton's DNA). He lands on Earth where Kevin Costner and Diane Lane raise him on their farm in Kansas. He hits the road in 1997 when Pa Kent is killed in a tornado and Clark did nothing to save his Earth father because he did not want to expose his secret to the world. He works odd jobs and makes his way to the Arctic where the US Army has found a scout ship from Krypton sent 18,000 years ago. He activates the ship when he goes inside and talks to the image of his dead father, Jor-El, kept around with Alien technology. Here he also meets Lois Lane, who is a reporter covering the ship being found. They make fast friends when Clark saves her life from a attack by the ship and she tracks him down in Kansas.
When they entered the ship, they sent a homing becon to Krypton, where General Zod and his army are hanging around in space. They were released from prison automatically when Krypton exploded. They come to Earth and demand Kal-El be surrendered to them. They want to extract the codex from him and they start terreforming Earth to turn it into a New Krypton. Superman teams up with Lois and Jor-El's Spirit(What else do you call it?) and send Zod's army back to the forbidden zone and in a moment of despair, Clark snaps Zod's neck. killing him. We end the movie with Clark Kent getting a job at the Daily Planet.
Amy Adams is good as Lois. Henry Cavill is good as Superman, but something seems to be missing. Zod is ok, nothing more. Faora(Zod's 2 in Command Woman ) is good. And Chris Meloni is good as a Army officer. Everyone else is passable including Russell Crowe. This movie is not bad, but it is not great.
