Shudder, AMC's genre-focused streaming service, has picked up the mystery-thriller series The Valley for the U.S., Canada, Ireland and the U.K. The series, the first one-hour original production from German pay TV channel TNT Serie, is a Twin Peaks-style mystery thriller set against the backdrop of German wine country. Friedrich Muecke stars as a man who wakes up in a vineyard next to a woman's bloody corpse and no memory of who he is or what happened. Beta Film, which sold the show to Shudder, is working on a U.S. remake with Critical Content, the freshly branded production company that emerged from Relativity’s television operation following the company's bankruptcy last year. Beta has had great success with The Valley, selling the show to more than 50 territories worldwide. Shudder, which focuses on the thriller, suspense and horror genres, made the move into original programming in June with the launch of horror documentary Primal Screen, from director Rodney Ascher (Room 237). The online subscriber service has several originals in the pipeline, including Riprore, a horror film to be directed by Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkins and horror series Deadwax and The Blondes.
