Skydance and its partner Ilion Animation Studios are moving quickly to jumpstart the duo's animation slate, hiring directors on a pair of projects. Alessandro Carloni, who co-directed Kung Fu Panda with Jennifer Yuh Nelson, is reteaming with that film's writers, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, for the comedy Luck. Aibel and Berger are writing Luck, a working title. The story aims to pull back the curtain on the millennia-old battle between the organizations of good luck and bad luck that secretly affect the daily lives of humans. Aibel and Berger are producing, along with Skydance's David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, as well as Ilion’s Ignacio Perez Dolset and Jose F San Roman. Carloni is a DreamWorks vet who was head of story on the two How to Train Your Dragons movies and worked with Aibel and Berger not just on Panda 3 but as a story artist on the first two installments. Vicky Jenson, who co-directed the first Shrek movie, has been tapped to helm Skydance and Illion’s untitled fantasy that has a script by Linda Woolverton, the writer behind Disney classics The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. The script is said to center on a teenager who comes of age using her magical powers to defend her family when the opposing forces of light and darkness threaten to divide her kingdom. Woolverton will serve as a producer on the film alongside Ellison, Goldberg, Dolset and San Roman. Carloni repped by UTA. Jenson is repped by WME, the Gotham Group and Newhouse Porter.
