While the series has been confirmed for release in 2017, Netflix has been tight-lipped about an exact premiere date. Thanks to a potential slip-up by director Dearbhla Walsh, however, we now know that the series is slated for a fall release. When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about some of her recent directorial efforts, Walsh revealed, “[I’ve directed] one other time that hasn’t been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it’s not airing until November.” The time frame would make sense, given Netflix’s release history regarding its Marvel projects. The first seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones launched in the months of October and November, respectively. It would also give viewers plenty of time to binge on the network’s team-up series, The Defenders, which launches August 18 and stars Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Developed by showrunner Steve Lightfoot, The Punisher will star Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman and Michael Nathanson.
