According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the company reportedly has a strategy to discontinue the name. He noted that while he hasn't heard anything officially, the GFW initials replacing "TNA" would "make a lot of sense." As noted, the "TNA" initials had been removed from their social media accounts and from their website, with the exception of links to ShopTNA.com and Total Access TNA Wrestling. While the TNA logo still appears on their title belts, they are simply referred to as the "World Heavyweight Championship", "X Division Championship" and "World Tag Team Championship" on their website. - There may be a legal battle brewing between TNA and the Hardys regarding to the "Broken" characters. Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that sources close to the Hardys tell them that Matt feels that while his deal with TNA allows the company to profit off of anything that they have filmed with any gimmick he used during his time with the company, he retains ownership of his name and characters once his contract expires (which is at midnight tonight). However, TNA apparently feels that it is not the case, and they own all intellectual property creations. WWF had famously sued WCW in the 90s, with one of the claims being that WCW infringed on their Diesel and Razor Ramon characters with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall using similar mannerisms when they jumped to WCW. On a recent edition of Legends with JBL, Hall discussed the lawsuit and how it was nipped in the bud. "I just remember thinking, 'the most recognizable features about my character is my face, so I feel like I own that'," Hall said. "And then, shortly after all that, the lawsuit went on from day one, but then, when the fake Razor and the fake Diesel debuted, it was pretty much kind of like, 'okay, like, done deal, like, that's Razor and Diesel. We're 'The Outsiders'. Gene Okerlund called us 'The Outsiders', so we didn't have to have names." - Jeff Jarrett, who is now overseeing creative in TNA, commented on the Hardys and Drew Galloway leaving TNA this week. www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0310/624022/reby-hardy-says-impact-wrestling-is-suing-the-hardys/Reby Hardy Says Impact Wrestling Is Suing The Hardys, Tried To Come After Her Father From the looks of it, the relationship between the Hardys and Impact Wrestling did not end amicably. When I interviewed Laurel Van Ness on The Pancakes and Powerslams Show, she admitted that the Broken Hardys is what drew people back into watching Impact. However, due to reports stating that Jeff Jarrett preferred a more traditional feel, which did not include the Hardys, the relationship dissolved. Matt Hardy was willing to mend the "broken" fences, but Jeff, not so much. As noted, Impact Wrestling President Ed Nordholm posted a conciliatory message for the Hardys on Twitter this morning, which did not sit too well with Matt's wife, Reby, who posted the tweets below today. She also suggested that the company is suing the Hardys, writing, "Good luck explaining to your talent that their pay checks are late (again) because you're spending all your $$ suing the Hardys." "LMAO F--K YOU GUYS @ednordholm @realjeffjarrett @impactwrestling. MORE than happy to play this game Can we just talk about how many times Matt's contract could have been broken due to NUMEROUS issues on TNA end and never made a fuss about sh*t, but MFers wanna try & come at us NOW, *after the fact*?! Don't you have an owl to promote or some sh*t!? Or - I dunno - a company to "make great"? Instead of acting like the petty little bi**hes you are? "Speaking of petty, nice video package on TNA's "history": with NO visual or mention of Jeff - who gave his all for 7 YEARS - or Kurt?! But y'all sure made sure to get those two video ID shoots of Jeff Jarrett in there LMAO. But it's "just business, brother", right? PETTY. Everything these boys have done for the company & you wanna try & f--k us for the sake of it. Literally no other reason except YOU MAD lol. "How about my husband leaving me A DAY AFTER GIVING BIRTH to make your TV tapings? That's how dedicated this MFer was to the company. How about how the 3 highest rated TV segments of 2016 were financed by HARDYS solely to help the product & because they BELIEVED IN TNA. Or ALL THE SH*T TALKING BY JJ throughout contract negotiations & Matt was STILL THERE, professional & trying to make things work for 2017! "Oh & this the best part...these MFers trying to come after SEÑOR BENJAMIN. LMAO I CANT. "Señor Benjamin" - my dad, by the way - who was never paid a dime by the company & who was obviously never under contract. Not that those contract things mean anything to TNA. Until after they're over or until 3 days before they expire, apparently. "Funny thing is, everyone who ever actually had anything to do with #BROKEN Matt Hardy has our back on this. WHAT DOES THAT SAY TO YOU? D**n near 20% of your roster leaving in the span of a week, all citing the same reasons or none at all. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? "And then a fakea** "wishing you well" tweet from @ednordholm, mere HOURS before threatening to sue us. SUCH A FITTING END, MAN. Seriously, you couldn't write this sh*t. Well. TNA couldn't write this sh*t. Any writers worth a sh*t left too! Real cute how TNA can go radio silent for WEEKS (with exception of nonsensical drunk texts from JJ) but we get a 2 hour deadline to respond. F--k you think this is, "Taken"? LOL I can't. "Good luck explaining to your talent that their pay checks are late (again) because you're spending all your $$ suing the Hardys. And f--k that owl."

Based on fiery tweets from Reby Hardy, the relationship is quite bitter, and becoming more and more unsalvageable. On the Ring of Honor 15th Anniversary pay-per-view, The Hardys defeated the Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice to not only maintain the ROH World Tag Team Championships, but also win the "Superkick Party" Tag Team Championships. However, there are legal issues stemming from Matt's "broken" gimmick being displayed, which caused question of it not being expressed much on the pay-per-view. The reason behind this, according to PWInsider, is due to Anthem issuing a cease and desist to the pay-per-view providers for Matt Hardy not to act out this gimmick. This is not believed to be a command of Jeff Jarrett, but simply Anthem, as they believe that the "broken" gimmick is their intellectual property.

www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0311/624036/reby-hardy-fiery-tweets-continue-gives-update-on-tna-legal-issue/Reby Hardy's Fiery Tweets Continue – Gives Update On TNA Legal Issue And Matt Hardy's Contract As previously noted, the "broken" character is attempted to be held up by Anthem and Impact Wrestling due to the feeling that the gimmick is their intellectual property. Yesterday, Matt's wife, Reby, posted a series of fiery tweets to express her disgust of how the contract situation is unfolding. Reby has posted another series of tweets, providing an update on the Anthem cease and desist and Matt Hardy's contract details while he was in Impact. UPDATE: TNA sending "spooky" letters to cable providers threatening to sue if they air Hardys. Trying to screw ROH & ruin wrestling for fans. Hardys just EXISTING & providing for our family, mind you. I think they believe they own our birth certificates at this point. TNA trying to ruin wrestling for all fans out of spite, but CONTRACTS ARE UP. *YOU* let them expire, REMEMBER? You don't own these boys! "Irony is, Matt's contract did not include exclusivity; could have legally appeared on ANY televised program WHILE UNDER TNA CONTRACT. Don't ever want to hear anyone talk about "burning bridges" when this move, which f--ks ROH & cable providers, leaves the most ashes behind. "TNA would rather destroy biz relationships with ROH & cable providers for the sake of trying to fck the Hardys. Think about that! Who is going to want to work with you now ? I mean, with the exception of GFW guys coming to IMPACT tapings for $20 towards greyhound fare."

Impact Wrestling apparently sent a cease and desist to pay-per-view providers regarding the intellectual property of the gimmick. Despite the legal threats, Matt Hardy is continuing to use the character on his Twitter and posted the tweets below following the ROH pay-per-view: As noted, Reby Hardy responded to Impact Wrestling's legal threats, writing on Twitter: "TNA sending "spooky" letters to cable providers threatening to sue if they air Hardys. Matt's wife, Reby Hardy, lashed out at Impact Wrestling, noting that the company was "sending 'spooky' letters to cable providers" if they aired the Hardys and were trying "to screw ROH & ruin wrestling for fans." Hardy responded to his wife's tweet, as seen below:

www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0313/624089/reason-why-anthem-is-pursuing-legal-action-against-matt-hardy/Reason Why Anthem Is Pursuing Legal Action Against Matt Hardy Revealed Source: PWInsider As noted, Anthem sent a cease and desist out to pay-per-view providers in order to prevent Matt Hardy from using the "Broken" character on the ROH 15th Anniversary pay-per-view. While this mandate apparently worked for the show, Matt continued to stay in gimmick during the promo following the tag team match, as well as Twitter. As widely publicized, Reby Hardy has been very vocal on exposing the reason behind the broken relationship between the Hardys and Anthem/Impact Wrestling. Now, there has been new information released on why Anthem made the decision to pursue legal matters. Outside of reports stating that Anthem felt that the gimmick is their intellectual property, PWInsider revealed that the primary reason that sparked the Anthem decision was Matt filing the trademark for the "Broken" character. While he popularized it and made it one of the most fascinating characters of the past year, the loophole that Anthem is trying to present is that Matt was not the only person involved in the backstage creative process, even if the majority were his ideas. Therefore, according to Anthem's viewpoint, he should not receive full revenue for the profit that comes with the character. Of course, there has not been anything settled as of yet, and both parties are standing firm in their views, based on the Twitter posts of Reby. It will continue to be a tug-of-war until one or both entities are willing to make a compromising resolution.
