The comedy gender-reverses the 1988 Frank Oz-directed film that starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as con men who try to swindle an heiress. The title is clever, given the awareness it received when Donald Trump gave Hillary Clinton that moniker during the presidential debates. Hathaway and Wilson play the scam artists — one low rent and the other high class — who compete to swindle a naïve tech prodigy out of his fortune. Pin High Productions’ Roger Birnbaum and Wilson’s Camp Sugar Productions are producing, with Birnbaum coming off The Magnificent Seven. Schaeffer most recently scripted sci-fi comedy The Shower, which Hathaway starred in for Warner Bros. Hathaway is engaged as part of the all-star ensemble cast of the Gary Ross-directed Ocean’s Eleven spinoff Ocean’s Eight. She’s repped by CAA and Management 360.

The movie marks Addison’s big-screen directorial debut. Jac Schaeffer will write the screenplay. Cave 76’s Roger Birnbaum and Wilson’s Camp Sugar Productions are producing. The film gender-reverses the 1988 Frank Oz-directed comedy classic that starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as con men who try to swindle an heiress. The ’80s film was itself a reboot of Ralph Levy’s 1964 movie “Bedtime Story,” starring Marlon Brando, David Niven, and Shirley Jones. “Nasty Women” follows two female scam artists, one low-rent and the other high-class, who compete to swindle a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune. The title calls to mind Donald Trump’s insult to Hillary Clinton during the final presidential debate, a phrase which has since been reclaimed as a feminist rallying call. Addison is best known for his work on the small screen, having directed episodes of HBO’s “Veep” and BBC’s “The Thick of It.” His upcoming projects include Fox’s “Fresh Off the Boat” and NBC’s “Playing House.” Addison is also a comedian and actor, having appeared in the hit British series “Doctor Who,” “Skins,” and “The Thick of It.” He is repped by WME and Avalon Management.

Sharp will play Thomas, a tech billionaire in his early 20s who becomes the subject of a wager between the sparring con women. Glenne Headly was the object of the wager in the original 1988 comedy that starred Michael Caine and Steve Martin as the con men — high-end and low-class, respectively. Chris Addison (Veep) is making his feature directorial debut with the film, which is set to begin production next month in London. Jac Schaeffer wrote the screenplay. Cave 76’s Roger Birnbaum and Wilson’s Camp Sugar are producing, with Ilona Herzberg and Alison Owen executive producing.
