WORLD TITLE MATCH SET FOR ROH'S FIRST PPV OF 2017
BY DAVE MELTZER | @davemeltzerwon | JAN 16, 2017 10:13 AM
Adam Cole, or whoever is Ring of Honor champion, facing Christopher Daniels for the championship will be the main event of the company's first PPV of the year, the 15th anniversary event on March 10th in Las Vegas.
The show will take place at Sam's Town.
Daniels was the winner of the Decade of Excellence tournament, which featured eight wrestlers who had started with the company over 10 years ago. At the television tapings on Saturday night in Atlanta, he defeated Jay Briscoe in the tournament final after Briscoe had beaten Jay Lethal in the semifinals.
Daniels had already won his semifinal match over Chris Sabin at the December 4th tapings in Philadelphia.
Last year, in the build to Ladder Wars, Daniels did some tremendous interviews talking about how his career is nearly over and that if he lost the tag team title, which he did that night, that it may be the end of his career. The match, which may have been the craziest major promotion match in the U.S. of last year as far as stunts went, saw Daniels stand out with an incredible performance in losing.
Daniels headlined the first ROH show ever in 2002, and has never been ROH champion, which is likely to play into the storyline.
The winner of the Anniversary show match will then defend the title against Dalton Castle on the April 1st show in Lakeland, Florida, which is the WrestleMania weekend show, although Lakeland is a fairly decent drive from Orlando.
Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, and Cody (Rhodes), besides the regulars, will be appearing on the Lakeland show, which will also include first-time appearances of wrestlers from CMLL and New Japan.
