Alberto Del Rio Reportedly Arrested After Club Brawl In Austria, Fights Brother At Police Station
Alberto Del Rio was arrested in Austria on Friday, December 30th, according to Austrian news website KRONE and other local media outlets.
Following an indie show in Leoben, Austria, Del Rio and his brother El Hijo del Dos Cara were reportedly involved in a brawl at a local nightclub. Del Rio was obviously released from police custody as he was visiting RAW in Tampa with girlfriend Paige today but the incident led to Del Rio leaving the country 24 hours later than planned. Paige was not with him in Austria.
After the fight at the club, the man they fought reportedly went to the hospital while Del Rio and his brother were taken to the local police precinct. The two then got into a fist fight with each other while at the precinct, apparently because Del Rio was trying to calm his brother down. Del Rio's brother is reportedly still hospitalized in Austria. It was also noted that police at the precinct had to use ankle shackles to restrain Del Rio after he destroyed the ties that were originally used to restrain his arms. Apparently the brawl between the two brothers left the walls bloody.
We got some more news on the weekend incidents involving Alberto (Del Rio) Rodriguez and brother Guillermo in Austria. This is from an eye witness who was there for both skirmishes. The version verified the police statements about the incident printed in the new issue and that some of the tabloid coverage was exaggerated. Alberto & Guillermo were actually scheduled to leave and return home for an early morning flight, and be driven at about 2:30 a.m. to Vienna for their flight home after their match on Friday. Alberto then asked promoter Chris Raaber if they could stay an extra day and he'd use his miles to change the flights and so that happened.
There was a fight between Alberto and a 26-year-old Austrian and punches were thrown. Guillermo jumped in to help his brother. It wasn't a bad fight but Alberto did deliver some damage to the guy, and he was bruised up but not hurt badly. The police were called. At the police station, the two brothers started arguing in Spanish so nobody knew what they were saying or fighting over. The belief was Guillermo was just trying to calm Alberto down and Alberto was yelling at him. Alberto did break the zip-ties and they used ankle shackles, but the shackles were around Alberto's wrists, not his ankles.
There was a back of a chair broken off and some blood splattered on the wall from Alberto and Guillermo's fight. Guillermo was not knocked out as per media reports, but he did go to two different hospitals and took a train to the airport while Alberto had already left by cab. (thanks to Markus Gronemann)
