Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Forms U.S. Theatrical/Digital Distribution Company
EXCLUSIVE: After building Hyde Park Entertainment Group with an overseas specialization, chairman/CEO Ashok Amritraj is forming a U.S. theatrical and worldwide digital distribution company. Hyde Park Global will release four to six films per year. Amritraj, whose Hyde Park was behind such films as 99 Homes, Blue Valentine and Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, will staffing up to focus on festival buys of finished films and pre-buys of films in early stages of development and financing.
The new venture will run parallel to Hyde Park’s other businesses that include its international and global television, digital and local language initiatives, as well as Hyde Park Entertainment and Image Nation Abu Dhabi’s long-term partnership to develop, produce and finance feature films.
“At a challenging time for independent films looking for a theatrical release in the U.S. market, Hyde Park Global is proud to offer an exciting alternative theatrical release platform,” said Amritraj. “We realize how deeply these passionate filmmakers care about their work and will provide full transparency in order for them to participate in the creative, marketing and distribution of their films as well as Awards campaigns.”
Amritraj is already expanding staff: in preparation for the launch of Hyde Park Global, Addison Mehr, a former executive at Amplify Releasing / GoDigital Inc., has joined the company as vice president of Acquisitions and Production and will expand the company’s distribution efforts. Priya Amritraj, already a Hyde Park production exe on films that include Prey and the TV series Chance of a Lifetime, joins Hyde Park as director of Acquisitions and Production.
