Imperative Entertainment acquired the film rights to “Tangerine,” Christine Mangan’s debut novel, with Johansson attached to star. Imperative Entertainment partners Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas will produce alongside Smokehouse Pictures’ George Clooney and Grant Heslov “Tangerine” is a psychological thriller set against the simmering political climate of 1950s Morocco. Publishing rights were sold to Ecco (HarperCollins) earlier this week. “Christine has created an evocative and electrifying novel,” Friedkin said. “We’re thrilled to not only be working with George, Grant, and the talented team at Smokehouse Pictures, but also one of the most skilled actors on the planet in Scarlett. This is an all-star team and we can’t wait to bring this stunning tale to life.” Johansson can be seen next in Paramount and Amblin’s adaptation of the anime classic “Ghost in the Shell” and most recently starred in “Captain America: Civil War.” Jillian Apfelbaum, Imperative’s vice president of content, will oversee development and co-produce. Clooney and Heslov are repped by CAA. Johansson is repped by CAA, manager Rick Yorn of LBI Entertainment, and attorney Kevin Yorn. CAA brokered the deal, and John Atwood negotiated on behalf of Imperative.
