Russian superhero movie Zashchitniki (Guardians) has sold to India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, the Benelux countries and the Czech Republic. The deal was unveiled at the American Film Market. The film is produced by Enjoy Movies and directed by Sarik Andreasyan, known for last year's American Heist, starring Adrien Brody and Hayden Christensen. Planeta Inform is handling international sales. Earlier, the movie was sold to Germany, France, China, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Columbia, Costa Rica and other countries. A 40-minute excerpt was for the first time screened at AFM. "All major distributors attended," Dmitry Litvinov, head of Planeta Inform, was quoted as saying by Booker's Bulletin. "Buyers saw a potential hit." Guardians is set at the height of the Cold War and features a group of Soviet superheroes defending their country. The movie is set to be released in China by Turbo Films in February under the country's import quota. In Russia, the movie will be released by Karo on Feb. 23.
