Welcome to PWInsider.com's ongoing coverage of California's All Pro Wrestling Internet PPV debut tonight with "#11/11" from Pacifica, CA's Ingrid B. Lacy School, streaming live via the Fite App, which you can download on your phone or watch via
www.fite.tv.
I am streaming the show from the
www.fite.tv app to my Samsung Smart TV and it looks great.
Jon Roberts and Kevin Gill are your announcers. I'm a big fan of Gill's work. I don't know Roberts at all, but I will after the show!
They announced it was a complete sellout, which looked about right.
Jacob Fatu vs. Levi Shapiro
Fatu controlled Shapiro early. He hit the ropes after an Irish whip was reversed and went for a standing moonsault, but Shapiro slipped out of the ropes. Shapiro worked him over with an axehandle across the back and a headbutt for a two count. Fatu fired back with chops but was cut off with a knee to the mid-section as he rebounded off the ropes. Shapiro worked over Fatu's leg on the mat.
Fatu made a comeback with a series of chops but a dropkick to the knee brings him to the mat. Shapiro scored a two count. Shapiro nailed several rights and applied a claw to Fatu's leg. Shapiro is sporting a Blackjack Mulligan style glove. You have to love that!
He continued focusing his attack on Fatu's leg and ankle. Fatu reversed a whip into the corner but missed a leaping splash when Shapiro side-stepped him. Shapiro nailed a series of rights but Fatu fired out with punches and a superkick. Shapiro's manager Dirty Dan got on the apron. Fatu grabbed him. Shapiro charged Fatu, who moved out of the way and Dan was knocked off the apron.
Fatu nailed Shapiro with a Samoan Drop. He nailed a moonsault off the top and scored the pin.
Your winner, Jacob Fatu!
Solid back and forth opener.
Shapiro shoved down and abandoned his manager after the match.
They showed footage of MVP winning the APW Universal championship last month.
In the ring, Kevin Gill interviewed APW Universal champion MVP and his "business associate" Caesar Black. They made Gill leave the ring and introduced MVP's backup crew, The Black Armada. They challenged "their meat" to come out and face them.
Black Armada vs. Johnny Dynamo and Derek Slade
Slade and Dynamo tried to go after them at the bell but were quickly laid out. They killed Dynamo with a big powerbomb. They forced Slade into the corner and forced his hands inside the turnbuckle, trapping him and nailed a series of splashes. They sandwiched him in the center of the ring with stereo charges and he collapsed to the mat, where he was quickly pinned.
Your winners, The Black Armada!
The idea here was to establish the Armada as monsters and they did a nice job of that.
Matt Carlos vs. Karl Fredericks.
Fredericks was the larger of the two and used his power early to control Carlos. Carlos tried to use some reversals but Fredericks continued to maintain control. Carlos caught him with a back elbow as he rebounded off the ropes. The crowd rallied behind Carlos but as he charged, he was caught and nailed with a Samoan Drop.
Fredericks nailed a big Stinger splash in the corner but was caught with a knee as he attempted a second one. Carlos went to the top rope but was caught and slammed off down into the ring. Fredericks hit a gorgeous standing moonsault for a two count. They battled back and forth with punches. Carlos nailed a superkick. Fredericks was whipped into the corner but went over the top, landing on the apron. He was kicked in the head but came back with several kicks of his own for a two count.
Fredericks nailed a standing moonsault and came down with something of a headbutt because he overshot. He missed a kick and was caught with a Flatliner for a two count. Carlos went to the top but was caught. Fredericks went for a GTS but Carlos caught his leg coming down and rolled into a Boston Crab attempt. Some nice exchanges. Fredericks avoided a charge in the corner and nailed a reverse kick. He came off the top with a flying splash for the pin.
Your winner, Karl Fredericks!
Fredericks was really athletic and moved well for a larger talent. Carlos had some charisma and was comfortable playing babyface. Match was decent. I can see some potential in Fredericks for sure.
JR Kratos vs. Vinnie Massaro
Massaro has been working the local scene forever and has popped up on Lucha Underground. Kratos is a regular for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. The fans chanted "Greasy Meatball" on Massaro, playing off his Italian character.
Kratos took him to the mat and controlled him before hitting a right hand hand. They locked up and Kratos immediately took him down to the mat. Massaro nailed several strikes and Kratos only got annoyed, looking like he was going to rip his head off. Massaro tried to ward him off with a series of kicks and caught him with an elbow in the corner. He backed up to charge across the ring but Kratos exploded across the ring with a charge into a big forearm.
Massaro cut him off with a nice European uppercut and began drilling him with chops and punches. Kratos went up and over in the corner, nailing a deep armdrag and a nice dropkick. Massaro came back with a leg lariat. Kratos made a comeback with a sitdown Michinoku Driver.
Massaro fought back until he was drilled with a big, evil kneelift for the pin.
Your winner, JR Kratos!
Both looked good here. Kratos had some really impressive moves. Massaro was good in his comebacks.
APW Tag Team champions Reno Scum vs. Marcus Lewis & Will Hobbs.
Adam Thornstone came out and announced he was injured and wouldn't be able to compete. He said the good news is that they are 90% sure he doesn't need surgery on his leg. Bison Braddock is going to be his substitute. He was told not to suck and don't screw it up. Great advice!
Marcus Lewis' nickname is the Flying Lion. He has a great look with bright furry tights and long braids, like a lion's mane. He started against Bison and they went back and forth. Bison shoulderblocked him down. Lewis nailed several leapfrogs as Bison rebounded back and forth before nailing a nice dropkick. Hobbs tagged in and he was all power, including a delayed vertical suplex. Lewis nailed a springboard into the ring but was caught and nailed with a trio of Northern Lights suplexes. He was able to pull Lewis right out of one and whip him over to nail another. That was seriously great. Hiroshi Hase would be impressed.
Luster The Legend tagged in and nailed a big swing on Lewis for a two count. Bison tagged in and drilled Lewis into his boot, which was draped across the top turnbuckle. Lewis was able to finally make a tag and Hobbs looked good with a powerslam. His timing is really good. Bison and Hobbs fired back and forth with forearms. Bison tagged out to Luster The Legend. Even though Luster was the bigger man, he was muscled back into the corner by Hobbs.
Hobbs nailed a knee to the mid-section but was caught with a kick as he charged into the corner. Luster nailed a Rick Steiner-esque bulldog off the ropes. Bison tagged in and nailed a nice release German suplex for a two count. Hobbs fired back with a series of forearms and backed Bison into the corner, where he tagged Lewis back in. Lewis muscled Bison up and nailed a gutbuster for a two count.
Luster The Legend tagged in and nailed a fisherman's buster. Hobbs broke up the pin but was tied to the tree of woe. Luster nailed a bucklebomb into Hobbs, who was trapped upside down. Luster locked in a Texas Cloverleaf. Lewis tried to fight off, but was fading. Hobbs slipped in from behind and nailed a sleeper. He grabbed the groggy Luster and nailed a spinebuster.
Luster and Lewis tried to make tags and finally did. Bison nailed a series of clotheslines but Hobbs stayed on his feet until Bison went up and over and nailed a belly to back suplex. He went for a back suplex on Lewis, who landed on his feet and nailed a dropkick. Luster returned to the fray but was nailed with a tornado DDT. Crowd loved that. Lewis went to the top and nailed a 450 splash but Lewis pulled his feet up. Hobbs drilled Boston and scored the pin.
Your winners and new APW champions, Will Hobbs and Marcus Lewis!
Really fun match. All four looked good. I had never even heard of Bison Braddock and was REALLY impressed with how smooth his technical wrestling and suplexes looked. Hobbs showed some awesome power and timing. Lewis is a hell of a fun babyface with a gimmick that can play to kids or play to diehards that want flashy, fun wrestling. Luster looked really good as well.
Entertaining first half that built well.
APW Goldrush Pro Dynamite Division champion Boyce LeGrande vs. Colt Cabana.
LeGrande, who is a heel, had tons of streamers tossed for him. Kevin Gill noted there's been talk of professional protestors lately, so perhaps there are professional, paid streamer throwers. Lots of Cabana playing to the crowd early.
LeGrande tried to nail a chop but Cabana duck and struck with one of his own. LeGrande went to the floor, so Cabana went to the crowd and played up to them. When they returned to the ring, Cabana was able to control LeGrande early. Lots of European mat wrestling inspired reversals sprinkled with some comedy. LeGrande's manager grabbed Cabana's leg while he was on the buckles, allowing LeGrande to take control.
LeGrande worked over Cabana for some time. The crowd rallied behind Cabana. LeGrande continued beating him down and scoring two counts. LeGrande came off the ropes but ate a boot to the face. Cabana psyched himself up and began firing away with right hands. He ducked a clothesline and used the Bionic Elbow, followed by the Flying A*****. Cabana nailed a splash off the ropes for a two count.
Cabana locked in the Bill Goat's Curse but LeGrande's manager got on the apron, distracting the referee just as he tapped. Cabana let the move go and punched the manager. That allowed LeGrande to nail Cabana with his finisher the LeGrande Delight and score the pin.
Your winner and still APW Goldrush Pro Dynamite Division champion Boyce LeGrande!
APW Internet champion Rik Luxury vs. Will Cuevas - Boot Camp Rules.
No rules, no DQ. Cueves came out in camouflage as he is a former Marine. They brawled around the floor and tossed each other into guard rails. They battled over suplexes on the floor until Cueves nailed it. Cueves went to the back and came out with a shopping cart full of weapons. Somewhere in my imagination, he mugged Homeless Jimmy for those. Well, they are in California, so it could have happened!
Luxury cut off Cueves and nailed him in the head with a dustpan. He used a belt to whip Cueves, who fought back and nailed a jawbreaker. Cueves got his hand on the belt and began whooping Luxury. They brawled into the crowd, but unfortunately, it was too dark to see what was going on. They battled up into the bleachers. Luxury smashed Cueves down facefirst into a chair. Cueves came back and nailed a flying elbow off the bleachers to the floor. That started an "APW" chant.
They brawled back into the ring. Luxury nailed Cueves with a chair and then drove his throat down into the chair. Luxury pulled a dog collar and chain out from under the ring and used it to set up a hangman's neckbreaker. Cueves backdropped Luxury onto the chain for a two count and set up a chair in the ring. He snapped him down with a drop toehold for a two count.
Cueves went to the top and nailed a frog splash for a two count. Luxury cut off Cueves and drilled him across the back with a chair for a two count. He snapped Cueves down with a DDT for a two count. He went to the floor for a Tazer. Cuever caught him coming in and used the Tazer. He grabbed a pair of handcuffs that Luxury tried to bring into the ring and handcuffed Luxury's hands behind hid back. He nailed a twisting neckbreaker and scored the pin.
Your winner and new APW Internet champion Will Cuevas!
Fun little brawl. Different feel from everything else on the show. Cueves was a good babyface and the crowd was really into his win, which is what it's supposed to be.
Cody Rhodes vs. Joey Ryan
They go back and forth with a nice series of exchanges and reversals before facing off. The crowd loved that. They locked up and Cody caught him in a hammerlock. They did a comedy bit where Ryan was out of breath from running the ropes, called for a time out and used an inhaler. Then, they started running the ropes again. This time, Cody was out of breath and wanted some water. Ryan tried to sneak up and nail him, but Cody spit the water in his face.
Ryan clotheslined Rhodes over the top to the floor and nailed a tope to the outside. Cody nailed a springboard kick and then hit a springboard over the top to the floor on Ryan. The crowd chanted for Cody. Ryan cut off Rhodes and worked him over with a neck crank. The crowd rallied Cody, who made a comeback with some right hands before being caught with a throw suplex. Good stuff so far.
Ryan put a blowpop in his tights, then shoved it in Rhodes' mouth. He went to nail Cody with a superkick but was nailed and covered for a two count. Rhodes and Ryan battled back and forth with right hands until Cody started clubbering. He went for the inverted DDT but was tossed off and nailed with a running kneelift for a two count.
Cody went to the outside and nailed Ryan with something. It turned out to be his old clear mask. He placed it on his face and shoulderblocked Ryan down, then came down with a low headbutt. Cody went for a testicular claw but Ryan's powerful penis reversed it and tossed him upside down. Never doubt the power of the penis. Ryan went under the ring and pulled out a bag of Gummi Bears. He poured them out like they were thumbtacks.
Ryan and Rhodes fought around the Gummi Bears acting like they were dangerous artifacts of torture. Ryan was finally backdropped onto them and the crowd chanted, "Holy sh**." Cody drilled Ryan with a big right hand and went back under the ring for another bag - this time, it really was a bag of thumbtacks. Of course there are tacks now.
They battled around the tacks and teased going into them. They battled to the top and Rhodes attempted a superplex and nailed it. They BOTH took the tacks. Crazy insane wrestlers. Ryan went for a sunset flip but Rhodes countered it and scored the pin.
Your winner, Cody Rhodes!
A pretty you know what fun dysfunctional match, mixing some good wrestling, silly spots and a pretty nutty superplex onto tacks.
The crowd loved the result and chanted, "Thank you Cody!"
APW Universal champion MVP with Caesar Black and The Black Armada vs. Jeff Cobb
Jeff Cobb is best known as Matanza Cuerto in Lucha Underground. His gimmick here is "Mr. Athletic." He's REALLY good.
Cobb controlled early on, showcasing his power and suplexes. MVP nailed a pair of German suplexes but Cobb was able to nail a pair of his own. MVP was able to nail a low blow when the referee was distracted, cutting off Cobb's momentum and nailing another series of German suplexes. He went for another but Cobb struck him with an elbow. MVP nailed him with a shot to the back, followed by a Yakuza Kick and a lariat for a two count.
MVP cinched in a crossface and ripped at Cobb's face. Cobb was able to maneuver a reversal into a pinfall attempt for a two count. MVP whipped Cobb hard into the buckles for a two count. They battled back and forth until MVP nailed a lariat for a two count. MVP went back to the crossface. MVP posed and dumped Cobb to the floor outside. Caesar Black nailed Cobb while the referee was distracted.
MVP went to the floor and whipped Cobb into a guard rail. Cobb crashed down into an open chair in the corner, leaving him easy prey for a running Yakuza kick on the floor. Cobb was worked over but reversed a whip into the guard rail and clotheslined the champion down on the floor.
Inside the ring, Cobb nailed a modified exploder for a two count. Cobb went back to the German suplexes but MVP held onto the ropes and snapped Cobb into them, stunning him. MVP nailed a series of bodyshots and punches in the corner and followed that up with a Yakuza Kick in the corner and a T-Bone Tazplex. Cobb was drilled into MVP's knee and went down. MVP teased the Ballin' elbow but blew off the spectacle of it and dropped the elbow after rebounding off the ropes.
Cobb ducked a clothesline and nailed a suplex, then another. Cobb mocked the Ballin' elbow and hit a standing moonsault. That was pretty cool. He scored a two count. Cobb went for a slam but MVP's feet hit the referee during the rotation. Cobb went to cover MVP but Black pulled him to the floor, since there was no referee. Cobb grabbed Caesar Black into into the ring and hit his finisher, titled a Tour of the Islands.
The Black Armada hit the ring and beat down Cobb. The crowd booed this. Cobb ducked their finisher and began unleashing suplexes on them. MVP nailed the shining wizard on an unaware Cobb and scored the pin.
Your winner and still APW Universal champion, MVP!
Decent main event. Cobb is really good.
Overall, a good show that built well, showcased a lot of solid to good wrestling and had a nice mix of names and locals. If and when they do another iPPV, I'll be watching. Enjoyable three hours for sure.
MVP's crew all gave Cobb a beatdown for several minutes until a number of babyfaces, wielding chairs, ran them out of the ring.
