variety.com/2016/film/news/rupert-wyatt-sci-fi-movie-captive-state-participant-1201848974/ Rupert Wyatt’s Sci-Fi Film ‘Captive State’ Lands at Participant Media After a heated bidding war, Participant Media has come away with the rights to Rupert Wyatt’s next film, “Captive State.” Wyatt will direct from a script he co-wrote with his wife Erica Beeney. David Crocket will produce along with Wyatt. Several suitors, including FilmNation, were in the mix, according to sources familiar with the deal. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will have a sci-fi angle. Variety first reported the news of Wyatt’s next project. Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King of Participant Media will executive produce. The movie will be released through Participant’s output deal with Amblin Partners, with Focus Features releasing domestically and eOne launching it in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and the Benelux countries. Wyatt hasn’t directed a movie since Mark Wahlberg and Brie Larson’s 2014 drama “The Gambler.” He was once attached to direct “Gambit,” which recently lost its latest director, Doug Liman, due to scheduling conflicts. In the past year, the helmer has been working on small screen projects, including the highly anticipated “Exorcist” TV reboot. He serves as exec producer and director on the Fox series. He also recently worked on the AMC Revolutionary War drama “Turn.” He is repped by UTA and Gang Tyre. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
