deadline.com/2016/07/dreamworks-amblin-montecito-win-bidding-war-spec-besties-1201790514/DreamWorks & Montecito Slap Down Six-Figures For Comedy Spec ‘Besties’ DreamWorks along with Montecito Pictures just beat out two other studios and slapped down low-to-mid-six figures for the spec Besties, a big, female ensemble comedy that should be a magnet for actresses in their early 30s. Written by Cassie Daniels and Mark Bartosic, it’s described as Wild Hogs meets My Best Friend’s Wedding and follows a woman who finds a long-lost love note then sets off on a road trip with her three best friends to break up the wedding of her childhood crush. This is the first big spec sale for the writing duo. Daniels is a writer and stand-up comedian and currently the segment producer for Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast, while Bartosic was a wide receiver in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and before that with the New England Patriots before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting. We heard the script is pretty darn funny. Might they be the next big writers for romantic comedies? Montecito’s Ali Bell brought the project into the the company and then brought it to DreamWorks’ Holly Bario and Andrew Calof at DreamWorks/Amblin, who jumped on it. Producers deals still have to be worked out but it is expected that Ivan Reitman and Bell will produce and Tom Pollock will executive produce with Peter Fried co-producing. The writers were repped by Paradigm.
