Freestyle Falls For ‘Autumn Lights’; First Trailer For U.S-Icelandic Mystery
Freestyle Digital Media has acquired North American rights to U.S.-Icelandic co-production, Autumn Lights. The mystery drama will go out in a limited theatrical release on October 21 with a day-and-date VOD debut. Check out the trailer above.
Directed by first-time feature helmer, Angad Aulakh, who also wrote the screenplay, the film stars newcomer Guy Kent, along with Marta Gastini (Borgia), Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson (Rams) and Thora Bjorg Helga (Metalhead).
Kent plays a young American photographer on assignment in a remote Icelandic community who discovers a deserted crime scene and is implicated in a local investigation, forcing him to remain in the area longer than expected. During this time, he crosses paths with a beautiful and intriguing Italian woman (Gastini) living with her Icelandic husband (Gunnarsson) in the secluded countryside. But as his fascination with the couple begins to intensify, he slowly finds himself entangled in their mysterious lives. The film was entirely shot in Iceland.
Aulakh is also producing with Kent and attorney Ashley M Kent under their Last Carnival banner. Mystery Productions’ Davíd Óskar Ólafsson and Árni Filippusson, who were exec producers on David Gordon Green’s Prince Avalanche, mark their first English-language drama with Autumn Lights. Their credits include Ragnar Bragason’s Metalhead which premiered in Toronto in 2013 and won eight Icelandic Academy Awards. They also produced Either Way, the film that Gordon Green remade into Prince Avalanche.
