Aaron Tveit’s Comedy ‘Better Off Single’ Gets Release Date
Gravitas Ventures has secured all worldwide rights to Aaron Tveit’s dating comedy “Better Off Single,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Gravitas has set an Oct. 7 date for release in theaters and on demand. Benjamin Cox is directing from his own script.
“Better Off Single” also stars former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Abby Elliott, Lauren Miller Rogen, Kal Penn, Chris Elliott, Lewis Black, Shane McRae, Kelen Coleman and Annaleigh Ashford.
Tveit portrays a man who quits his job and breaks up with his girlfriend (Abby Elliott) on the same day, but begins to wonder if he’s made a mistake after a quick dip in the dark waters of the New York City dating pool. With no job and no love, he’s forced to go on a journey of self-discovery so intense that he begins to suffer from surreal hallucinations, flashbacks and fantasies.
“We set out to make a smart, funny movie — one that would only be possible by the means of talented collaborators on both sides of the camera,” Cox said. “We’re thrilled to extend that collaboration to include Gravitas. We can’t wait for audiences to get a look.”
Tveit stars on the CBS series “BrainDead” and was a regular on “Graceland.”
“Better Off Single” is the first feature film from Cox, who is producing through his Red Square Pictures banner. Tracey Becker is also a producer.
Executive producers included Russell Carpenter, Nadav Besner, Eitan Melamed, Erica Leone, Reza Taleghani, Elisa Pugliese, Kim Winther, Red Sanders and Tom Cappuso.
The deal was negotiated by Dan Fisher for Gravitas and by Cox of Red Square Pictures, Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films, and Christopher Howland of American Entertainment Investors on behalf of the filmmakers.
