Actor Kellan Lutz, best known for his roles in “Twilight” and “The Legend of Hercules,” announced on Twitter that he met with director McG about the long-brewing live-action project. The news even inspired some impressive fan art: twitter.com/kellanlutz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw The reboot, which lurks in the shadow of the 1987 Dolph Lundgren film, has been in the works at Sony since 2009, with Jon M. Chu in talks to direct as recently as 2012. When that didn’t pan out, the studio began its search anew, with McG boarding the project early this year. The script has passed through the hands of a list of writers, but the latest version is believed to have been written by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch. (via Screen Rant)

www.bleedingcool.com/2018/04/19/nee-brothers-directors-masters-universe/Nee Brothers May Be Directors for Masters of the Universe Film Posted by Mary Anne Butler April 19, 2018 After several starts and stalls, the Masters of the Universe film from Mattel and Sony Pictures may have finally gotten themselves a directing pair. The Brothers Nee (Aaron Nee and Adam Nee) have reportedly been chosen by The Power of Greyskull to take over the directors’ chairs on the He-Man film from previously attached developing writer and director, David S. Goyer. Goyer is still writing the script, reportedly. The pair previously helmed the critically acclaimed indie thriller Band of Robbers. This hasn’t been confirmed by either the Nees or Sony yet, but there has been an official release date of 2019 for some time on the film. This story is developing and we’ll let you know when there’s an update. (Last Updated April 19, 2018 5:17 pm )

bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3496797/plot-details-masters-universe-movie-connect-skeletor-man-brothers/Plot Details for ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie Connect Skeletor and He-Man as… Brothers?! As announced last month, Sony Pictures and Mattel have tapped Aaron and Adam Nee to helm the long-gestating live-action reboot of the Masters of the Universe property, which previously had David S. Goyer on board to direct. Goyer, meanwhile, wrote the script, and he’s also set to executive produce He-Man’s return to the big screen. While we must note that scripts always go through various revisions before filming begins, the folks over on That Hashtag Show just brought something interesting to our attention that we thought was worth sharing. They got their hands on character breakdowns for the new film, along with some pretty interesting early plot details. Most notably, the info they scored reveals that Skeletor and He-Man may actually be brothers in this version of Masters of the Universe, which would be an interesting new wrinkle for the franchise; previous storylines have tied the two together with a family bond, with Skeletor being revealed as the brother of He-Man’s father. The site explains, “Our source has indicated to us that in the upcoming film, King Randor will be presented as the great warrior-king of Eternia, a descendant of the Grayskulls, and the father of two sons: Adam and Keldor! As the film begins, Keldor is the chosen heir to the throne and his brother, Adam, is young, unfit and a bit of a black sheep. Where Adam’s relationship with his father is strained, Keldor is the epitome of a perfect son, beloved by his father…until the fate of Eternia is put on the line. With his kingdom on the line, Randor puts his people first, betraying Keldor, inciting the series of events that leads to him becoming the iconic Skeletor!” They continue, “The film will follow the meek and uncertain Adam as he assembles a group of heroes to take on his fallen brother and his collection of cronies. As you might expect, some familiar faces will be joining Adam in the fight.” The breakdowns further suggest that the film will feature Man-at-Arms, Zodak, Teela, Orko, Stratos, Beast Man, Trap Jaw and Evil-Lyn. Watch the video below to learn more. Sony has already dated the movie for December 18, 2019.

deadline.com/2019/01/art-marcum-matt-holloway-writing-new-draft-of-sony-mattel-films-masters-of-the-universe-1202533815/‘Masters Of The Universe’ Movie: Art Marcum & Matt Holloway To Write New Draft For Sony/Mattel Films Writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway are in final talks to write the new draft of Masters of the Universe, which Adam Aaron Nee will direct. Pic is based on the bestselling He-Man toyline from the 1980s that spawned an animated TV show and a 1987 feature from Cannon Films starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man; back in the day it made over $17 million at the domestic box office. He-Man is a muscular medieval kind of guy who is trying to ward off the nasty Skeletor and his dark armies as both good and evil fight for control of Castle Grayskull. Currently, Masters of the Universe had a release date of this year on December 20, but getting an event production of this magnitude up and running will take time. So it’s quite conceivable we could see that release date move into 2020. Like Barbie, He-Man is a prized franchise for Mattel. However, after numerous starts and stops in development at Sony including versions that would have separately starred Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway, Mattel jettisoned the Barbie project over to Warner Bros, where Margot Robbie is currently attached. There was a rumor that Patty Jenkins would direct, but she is busy with Wonder Woman 1984. The previous draft of Masters of the Universe was written by David S. Goyer, who is also an executive producer. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as DeVon Franklin are producing. Holloway and Marcum recently wrote Sony’s upcoming Men in Black: International. Their additional credits include Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight. They are represented by CAA, Grandview and attorney Mark Bisgeier.
