Disney To Unveil New ‘Frozen’ Tale, ‘Northern Lights’ Via Books, Video Shorts
Disney wants to try to keep “Frozen” at full boil.
The company said it would launch a new adventure featuring Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and the rest of the characters from its hit 2013 movie that would play out across a collection of books, animated video shorts slated to debut on Disney Channel, and digital extensions.
“Disney Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights,” will be published by Random House in July, followed by a collection of books featuring the movie’s famous characters along with a new protagonist named Little Rock. In the fall, Disney Channel subscribers will be able to see four new animated shorts designed by the Lego Group and featuring the original voice talent from the movie taking up their roles anew.
“We’re excited to share this new adventure and offer fans great new ways to connect with their favorite characters thanks to a host of related books, digital games and activities,” said Andrew Sugerman, executive vice president, Disney Publishing Worldwide, in a prepared statement.
The company has reason to turn up the heat on the icy franchise: Disney said in March of last year it would launch a sequel to the film, in which Elsa, one of two royal sisters, grapples with powers that let her command snow and ice. The movie notched more than $1.27 billion in global box office. The film’s directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are developing the sequel with producer Peter Del Vecho for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Disney will update the “Frozen” website with activities related to the new story and plans to launch an Instagram account inspired by the franchise.
