KEVIN SMITH WANTS TO DIRECT NETFLIX'S "DAREDEVIL" AND "THE DEFENDERS"
After paying a visit to Central City, Kevin Smith now wants to add Hell's Kitchen to his itinerary.
The filmmaker, who recently directed an episode of The CW's "The Flash," reveals he's lobbying to tackle Netflix's Marvel dramas "Daredevil" and "The Defenders."
"I feel very at home in that 'Flash' world, so much so that I'd love to do the others," Smith told IGN. "I even told [Marvel Chief Creative Officer] Joe Quesada -- we worked on 'Daredevil' together back in the day, I wrote it, he drew it -- I said, 'Dude, I want to direct 'Daredevil,' man. That'd be wild to be able to do it in real life -- let's co-direct it, that'd be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen.'"
Netflix has yet to announce a third season of "Daredevil" -- star Charlie Cox doesn't even know whether there will be one -- but there is "The Defenders," the upcoming miniseries that will bring together Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Man Without Fear.
"You know, they're gearing up now for 'The Defenders,'" Smith said. "If I can get a piece of that 'Defenders' miniseries -- holy excrement, could you imagine, dude? Because then you're working with multiple suits at once, that'd be phenomenal. Just doing a mini-Avengers -- even one episode of that run of 'Defenders' is like, 'Oh, I get to exercise any interest I had in Avengers but doing it on a scale where nobody's betting $200 million on the guy that made Fin' Yoga Hosers.'"
Of course, Smith's television dance card is filling up quickly: He's already set to return for a Season 3 episode of "The Flash," and has "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai" and "Mallrats" miniseries in the works.
Plus, he's already revealed he'd love to write an episode or two of "Arrow," an idea endorsed by star Stephen Amell.
Production of Netflix's "The Defenders" is expected to begin this fall.
